CARDIFF CHAIRMAN SAYS LUCKY TO HAVE TAN & HARRIS NOW HAS TO

Tue Oct 20, 2020 10:13 am

MY VIEW / OPINION:

Yes very happy with the in goings and out goings in this transfer, but to be fair to Harris he has cleared 23 players out in 11 months (12 first team & 11 Under 23's) and only brought in 2 permanent signings in 11 months.

On wages Harris has moved many over paid players out and has shrunk his squad considerably and left it weak in some areas. Harris would still have liked two more players and said so himself.

As to good business yes, def, we cleared out way more players on high wages than what we brought in, a lot of dead wood gone.

As to backing from Tan this season, Hmmmm? £36mill from Sky paid to our club this month, one of the very few Championship clubs, :bluebird: :bluebird: plus extras from Sky every month if we keep featuring on tv.

If we fail to go up this season, then Tan will have to dig deep to keep us going, like he has done before and either taken his money back through promotions or in increasing his shares in Cardiff City.

Can Neil Harris gain promotion this season, in my opinion YES :thumbright: :bluebird: Championship wide open and we now have a better quality first team than we did in August :thumbright: :bluebird: We will need to strengthen come January. :thumbright: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

CARDIFF CHAIRMAN SAYS LUCKY TO HAVE TAN & HARRIS NOW HAS TO DELIVER ON THE PITCH.

Cardiff City chairman says 'lucky' to have Vincent Tan supporting efforts to steer club in right direction — report

KUALA LUMPUR (Oct 20):

Cardiff City Football Club (FC)

Chairman Mehmet Dalman said the club is “lucky” to have Malaysian tycoon Tan Sri Vincent Tan Chee Yioun as its owner as the businessman and the board had been very supportive of the club’s efforts to steer itself in the right direction.

The club recently brought on board a slew of new players, with the most recent addition being Liverpool FC's Harry Wilson, who will be on loan for one season to the club at a cost of £25,000 a week.

Others include Sheyi Ojo, also from Liverpool, Leicester defender Filip Benkovic, Charlton goalkeeper Dillion Phillips, Kieffer Moore and Jordan Osei-Tutu.

Dalman: "We're going in the right direction, and we feel the squad's taking the right shape."

"On paper, it looks like great business. But we have to make sure it is great business. We have to get results on the pitch with the performances and Neil Harris has been given the tools and now has to deliver.

"He has cleared out a big proportion of his squad and reduced the wage bill and now Vincent Tan has backed him with new wages."

“We're really lucky to have Vincent Tan at the football club. Really lucky. The board was great in supporting the manager."

Tan, who is the founder and owner of Berjaya Group, reportedly led a Malaysian consortium which purchased 30% of Cardiff City shares around 10 years ago.

The consortium subsequently increased its stake to 90%.

Thankfully he has proven he will dig deep if we don’t go up. We won’t be facing the high court anytime soon for non payment of tax or other debt.

Although we may face the high court if Tan sues someone again. :)

We’re in a better position now than we was a week ago, last week without signing we would have been looking at relegation battle, now we’re in with a good shot at promotion. We’re still losing a lot of money every season by having “Visit Malaysia” in its various forms on the front of the tops for free. As for court... we’ve still got to go to court over the Sala deal, tbh I think we should just pay it in full, put it in the past and move on (the money was apparently put into a separate account to pay it).

As for being “lucky to have Tan as an owner” I wouldn’t say lucky at all. He’s done good for us I do admit but he’s also done a lot of damage over the years and yes he has made up for it. I can’t see anybody else swallowing the debt the way Tan has.

Hope he does dig deep to push us back to the Prem

TBH I think the £36m Sky money is a bit of a red herring. Yes it will arrive in CCFC's bank account this season but it is probably only enough to cover this years wage bill if we are lucky.

We don't receive (rightly) any of the Championship TV money apart from when we are televised. Those amounts are pitiful in the great scheme of things as one poster quipped the £130k received for our televised game against Bristol C will only cover Harry Wilson's income for just over a month.

We have to play clever and think ahead. I would imagine we have an excellent FFP/P&S record over the past 3 years so if VT needs to bail us out then there is scope to do so without sanction, after all no-one wants to be the next Sheffield W.

As for the overall window I would have to say on paper it looks excellent but of course time will eventually be the Judge.

We will let a few go in the next window, probably Day and maybe Bamba, Hoilett and Vassel?

Will need to bring in another 4 possibly RB, CB, Winger and another striker.

If the above leave it will mean the majority of the team will be NH players and as already pointed out lots of dead wood shifted out!

FFP has been suspended for this season due to Covid-19, teams can spend if they want hence Chelsea’s high transfer bill, teams will have next season to balance the books though

I wouldn't say we're "lucky to have Tan as an owner" either. I would say we're very lucky.

You only have to see how the standing of the club has grown since his arrival, compared to the total mismanagement of the club prior to him coming here. Yes the rebrand was not great but he put that right and has kept the club afloat in very difficult times.

Are you expecting an oil-rich sheikh with oodles of spare cash to turn up on our doorstep any time soon ?

That would be a great deal tbh

TBH Tan has had the club up for sale for years.... he will only listen to offers if they meet his valuation/criteria as mentioned time and again by Dalman and Choo.

It’s nice to see our club stable after the Ridsdale conglomerate years, but on the flip side we had better caliber of players with Ridsdale and Hamman.... since Tan has been here we’ve had ‘yes men’ managing the club, Ole was well out of his depth, he was given an open cheque book and didn’t go for the “best options available” he over paid for players and over payed wages too, since then NW worked to a tight budget for transfer fees and wages, NH has an even tighter budget and to be fair he’s done exceptionally well to get the players in that he has at the prices and reduce the wage bill.

As I said I hope he does dig deep if we get back to the Prem this year

Every single football club is for sale at the right price. They are businesses to these owners.

As for we had a better caliber of player under Sam and Ridsdale you can't seriously believe that ?

We are now signing international footballers from around the world in deals worth over £10mill and you are comparing then to signing people like Spencer prior and Graham kavanagh. Yes we signed one or two bigger names toward the end but nothing like we've seen recently .
Give Tan some credit the footballers we have had over the last 10 years are in a totally different league to what we signed in the past .

Gary medel
Victor Camarasa
Wilfred Zaha
Craig Bellamy
Harry Wilson

Some people just can't give Tan the credit he fully deserves

Ffp may be suspended, but I think its a very risky business,to splash the cash,in the hope it works, but if it doesnt, which is a big possibility, then what?? Id rather we stay within our means, and have a team to support next year, just my ooinion.
