Injury update: :bluebird: 20/10/20

Neil Harris has Greg Cunningham will be unavailable for "a few weeks" due to a new injury.

Joe Bennett and Jordi Osei-Tutu will undergo late fitness tests for Wednesday's game against AFC Bournemouth.

Harris says he has "no concerns" if 19-year-old Joel Bagan has to be called upon, because he's "ready to play".

Isaac Vassell could be our until at least next January.

Team news

"Greg Cunningham is going to be out for a few weeks. It’s a hamstring strain. I really feel for him. He's been out for so long and has been so desperate to get his Cardiff City career going and he’s just looked so fit and reliable, finding his feet again after such a long time out. It's just a tweak of the hamstring. That’s a shame.

"Jordi and Benno have come off late in games, so we'll have to see how they go before tomorrow night's game, whether they can make it. I have no concerns over Bacuna filling in. A lot more would have been made of his performance [on Sunday] if he’d been a bigger name at a bigger club. His versatility is really vital to us."

Both Greg Cunningham and Jordi Osei-Tutu limped out of the win at Deepdale, forcing Leandro Bacuna and Sol Bamba, respectively, to fill in from the bench.

"With Greg Cunningham. It's a real shame," Harris revealed after the game. "It looks like a small hamstring strain. So we have to see how he progresses over the coming days. He felt it straight away when he chased the ball into the corner.

"Then Jordi. I think it's just tight, so we're hoping he's going to be okay and it's going to be a quick turnaround for him. We're hoping for a bit of fortune on that one.

Isaac Vassell still out injured

Bournemouth FC:

Jason Tindall confirmed Joshua King, David Brooks and Lloyd Kelly returned to training this week Flexed biceps

They'll be assessed ahead of tomorrow's trip to Cardiff City Flag of Wales

About AFC Bournemouth

AFC Bournemouth is a professional association football club based in Kings Park, Boscombe, a suburb of Bournemouth, Dorset, England. The team compete in the Championship, the second tier of the English football league system. Formed in 1899 as Boscombe, the club adopted their current name in 1971. Nicknamed "The Cherries", Bournemouth have played their home games at Dean Court since 1910. Their home colours are red and black striped shirts, with black shorts and socks, inspired by that of Italian club A.C. Milan.

Initially known as Boscombe, the club competed in regional football leagues before going up from the Hampshire League to the Southern League in 1920. Now known as Bournemouth & Boscombe Athletic, they were elected into the Football League in 1923. They remained in the Third Division South for 35 years, winning the Third Division South Cup in 1946. Placed in the newly reorganised Third Division in 1958, they suffered relegation in 1970, but would win an immediate promotion in 1970–71. Relegated back into the Fourth Division in 1975, Bournemouth were promoted again in 1981–82 and after lifting the Associate Members' Cup in 1984 would go on to win the Third Division title in 1986–87. They spent three seasons in the second tier but entered administration in 1997 and ended up back in the fourth tier with relegation in 2002, though immediately gained promotion by winning the play-offs in 2003.

Bournemouth entered administration for a second time and were relegated back into League Two in 2008, but ended the year by appointing Eddie Howe as manager. Under Howe's stewardship, Bournemouth won three promotions in six years to win a place in the first tier of English football for the first time. This was achieved with a second-place finish in League Two in 2009–10, a second-place finish in League One in 2012–13 and a Championship title in 2014–15. The club remained in the Premier League for five seasons before suffering relegation in 2020.

This is the concern with full backs who are expected to fly up and down the flanks, hamstring injuries are common these days it seems? Wonder if benkovic can fill in there instead of bacuna? :old: :bluebird:

He is 6 .4" ...maybe Nelson or that youngster bagan to full back....Benkovich in the middle... Bacuna is dodgy

Am really looking forward to this one be interesting to see if we go at Bournemouth with a more attack minded approach now we have more flair players at our disposal or will we be more cautious because they are a very decent footballing side.

Also be interesting to see if Harris can work Tomlin and Wilson into the same side?

Or maybe we try 3 centre backs together in a back 3 and play Osei Tutu and, maybe, Hoilett as wingbacks ? Not sure it would work but maybe worth a try:

Smithies

Morrison - Benkovic - Nelson

Hoilett - Bacuna - Pack - Wilson - Osei Tutu

Tomlin

Moore

Nice idea - not sure junior has the legs for a wing back anymore though. What about Whyte?

Tindall to 'assess' Kelly and Brooks ahead of Cardiff clash

By Tom Crocker

Cherries head to south Wales for the Championship clash, looking to extend their unbeaten start to the league campaign to six matches.

Brooks has not featured in Cherries' past three matches due to injury and illness, while a hamstring problem has kept Kelly out of each of the same fixtures.

However, boss Jason Tindall revealed both players are edging closer to a return to action.

He said: "David Brooks is back training, which is good. He was out on the training field yesterday. He’ll be one that will be out there again today to see how he is.

"Lloyd Kelly the same. Trained with the group yesterday, his first group session and he’ll train again with the group today and we’ll assess him.

"It’s really good to have those lads back out on the training pitch."

Cherries could also have Joshua King available after he returned to training following a dead leg suffered whilst on Norway duty.

Yep, might be an idea. Not sure Whyte has enough about him to be an out and out winger but he's certainly got the work rate and pace to be a wing back

NEIL HARRIS:

"We know Bournemouth's ability," began Neil.

"You've just got to look at their squad on paper, the quality of player they've got throughout the team, and they've had a good start to the season.”

"We know the level of test ahead of us, but that's why we play the game. You want to play against the best sides in the division and you want to challenge yourselves as a group against them.

"We've got a lot to prove in the game. We've got momentum from the weekend where we had a fine performance, following up on an excellent point at Blackburn a couple of weeks before.

"We've had a good spell ourselves, coupled with a really good transfer window.

"Our point to prove is that we need to get the ball rolling at home, at Cardiff City Stadium, as I think quite a lot of teams do in the UK at the moment, with the amount of away wins. We're one of them, and we're conscious of the fact that we want to get off the mark at home with some points."

Gone for a draw on this one. If we can defend as well as we did Sunday then we are more than capable of taking a point, maybe hit them on the counter and sneak a win. Will be a tough challenge either way.

NEIL HARRIS:

"Home advantage has gone without the fanbase there.," Harris said.

"It just becomes a level playing field with 22 footballers running around on it. Away record in the last 12 months speaks for itself. It’s the best in the country.

"But that doesn't change the fact you want to win home games. Just because you’re at home. You feel with football that’s the way it should be.

"Come the end of the season, if we're in the top six and we've won more points away than at home, no one will bat an eyelid. However, we want to get back to winning ways at home and that starts with the next four days and the 2 home games we’ve got.

"We've got a lot to prove in the game. We've got momentum from the weekend, where we had a fine performance, following up an excellent point at Blackburn a couple of weeks before.

"So we’ve had had a really good spell and a really good transfer window. Our point to prove is that we need to get the ball rolling at the Cardiff City Stadium as I think quite a lot of teams do in the UK at the moment, with the amount of away wins.

"But we’re one in particular, where we’re conscious of the fact that we need to get off the mark at home."

Depends on the full back situation tonight. Whether bennet and tutu are fit will affect how confident I feel. Tonight will be a different test, Preston we’re more direct and aggressive which our back line stood up too well. Tonight will be more passing and movement so hopefully we are ready for that. More confident after the transfer window and Sunday’s result

So, too, is Kieffer Moore, by the way. Robert Glatzel is preferred to the Wales international tonight. Whether that is due to the sheer volume of games coming up or the player carrying a niggle we are as yet unsure.

No Lee Tomlin in the squad, either. Must not be fully fit and firing. A shame.

Here are the key match facts

Cardiff won their last league game against Bournemouth, 2-0 in February 2019 in the Premier League. They’ve not won consecutive league games against the Cherries since September 1946.

Cardiff City haven’t lost three consecutive home Championship matches since September 2016 under manager Paul Trollope.

Bournemouth are looking for consecutive away league wins for the first time since October 2018 when they were in the Premier League, beating Watford and Fulham.

Not feeling that confident but whenever I do we get tanked.

Hoping Wilsons dead ball skills help with set plays as I think we now must all agree, not anyone can take a corner or free kick. Fiver on Morrison to score anytime is my bet of the rest of the season for every game Wilson starts.

I really want to be proved wrong with Bobby Glatzel. He really could have done with a normal pre season as I feel he needed to get on the shakes and weights for 3 months rather than a few weeks.

Great to See a youngster get a start :ayatollah:

Robert Glatzel shows lovely feet there to work a one-two with Ojo down the right and wins a corner.

Excellent work from the striker.
