Cardiff City back in for Wolves starlet Dion Sanderson with Sheffield Wednesday also keen

Wednesday 14th October 2020

The Bluebirds are keen to add a right back before Friday's deadline and Cardiff City Stadium is a place Dion Sanderson knows well, having spent the back end of last season on loan there

Dion Sanderson is thought to be a target once again for Cardiff City

Cardiff City are reportedly keen to bring Dion Sanderson back to the Welsh capital before Friday's transfer deadline.

The 20-year-old Wolves prospect impressed during his loan stint at Cardiff City Stadium towards the back end of last season, however his form dipped slightly in the lead-up to the play-off semi-final with Fulham.

The Bluebirds have recruited Jordi Osei-Tutu on loan from Arsenal this term, but he is the only recognised right back currently at Neil Harris' disposal.

Neil Harris would ideally liked to bring in a forward player and a right back before Friday's 5pm transfer deadline as Harris tries to equip himself for another promotion charge this term.

And now MailOnline report that the Bluebirds, along with Championship rivals Sheffield Wednesday, want to make their move to sign the Wolves academy product before the window shuts on Friday.

The Molineux club are thought to be open to either a permanent or loan deal for Sanderson, whose contract expires at the end of the season.

The report adds that Wednesday have sounded out Cardiff over a potential move for Aden Flint, with the Owls currently trying to mitigate a number of injuries to their backline at present.

Flint, who is thought to be a loan option for the Hillsborough club, is a player Garry Monk is said to have followed for some time and any potential deal which would see the 31-year-old move up north could have ramifications for the Sanderson deal.

It is understood that Cardiff do not want any more players to leave without replacements having been lined up before Friday's 5pm deadline, given the sheer number of bodies they have shipped out the door since the start of the calendar year.

Sanderson, who can play both centre back and right back, has been an option for City since the start of the window, though, and as such a move for him in the final days would not come as a big surprise.

Cardiff have expressed to Wolves that they are happy to bring Sanderson back this season, but Wolves wanted to monitor the player during pre-season to see whether he fits into Nuno Espirito Santo's plans moving forward.

However, it now looks increasingly likely that Sanderson will leave Wanderers this season.

Would be a great signing on loan and even better on a permanent contract. I Mentioned it on another thread but he could cover CB and RB which means Tutu could be pushed up on to the wing if needed.

If we are going to transition to a better ball playing side we need defenders who are more comfortable with the ball at their feet. Id sign him with the intention of eventually replacing Morrison at CB.

I thought he looked good last yeat. Not sure I can see him at CB mind. Bit lightweight!

Dion in and Flint out. I think that improves us.

Dion can play CB + RB too, giving us more options and more cover.

Flint clearly not in Harris' plans

He's a CB, naturally, but can play as RB as well. He's only 20. Slam the protein down him and he'll fill out!

If we managed to bring in Sanderson and Woodrow before the deadline I would be happy.

I would expect the chances of both happening depend on what fringe players we can offload.

I hope Dion Sanderson does come back to us but he had a bad game against Fulham I think it was in Neil Harris eyes and then didn’t get picked for the remainder of the season he done well for us and shouldn’t have been dropped just because Neil Harris thought he had a bad game everyone has a off day but not to be picked for the remainder of the season was shocking

Can't see why we would be in for him. Harris dropped him like a stone after that Fulham (first half) game and played a central midfielder there instead of him. Makes no sense than less than three months later he sees him as a starter. I suspect it was a way of getting Pack into the team.

I like him he reminds me of Gabbidon. The problem was he was expected too much in the attacking side, he'll end up a centre half.

yes i said in another thread that after that Fulham game Harris then only used him once in the next 5 games , as the 5th sub in injury time while 3=1 up against Boro. been surprised people kept mentioning him but Harris has today so who knows..
