Beginning to sound like Trollope 2 all of this. Replace Austin with Lambert and there you go.

Report: West Brom’s Charlie Austin wanted by Cardiff on loan

ByJordan Harris

West Bromwich Albion striker Charlie Austin is on Cardiff City’s radar, with The Telegraph reporting that the Bluebirds are interested in a season-long loan.

The 31-year-old is yet to feature for the Baggies since they were promoted to the Premier League. He did however, play an important role in helping Slaven Bilic’s men get to the top flight.

Charlie Austin is currently on £70,000 a week, the Bluebirds have offered to pay a third of that wage.
Austin scored 10 goals in 34 Championship appearances following his switch from Southampton. He only made 18 starts for the club, instead often proving to be a super-sub.

Nevertheless, it appears that he could be on the move before the window fully closes. The Telegraph reports that Bilic is prepared to let Austin leave the Hawthorns as he looks to fund a move for a new striker.

The report adds that Cardiff are keen to take Austin on loan. It is noted that Neil Harris’s side are also looking at Barnsley’s Cauley Woodrow.

It will be interesting to see if West Brom have any interest in loaning Austin out. As noted by Sky Sports, his contract with the club expires at the end of the season. So they would surely prefer to let him go permanently.

Having said that, Spotrac shows that Austin earns £70,000-a-week. That apparently places him as one of the club’s highest earners.

So if Bilic does not have him in his plans, he will surely be open to any offers that come in as he looks to bolster his own transfer kitty ahead of the final days of the window.

Proven goalscorer but what would this signing mean for Kieffer + Glatzel?

Loan signings join for the game time.

Not an out and out striker plays just behind a striker, although he can play up front.

He has more interest in his racehorses now

Prefer we signed the guy from Barnsley. Even a third of Austins wages is 23k+. I doubt woodrow is even on half of that. I know there would be a transfer fee involved for woodrow but at least we would be adding a valuable asset to the club. Don't know much about him but looks like he had a decent season last year in a struggling side.

I cant say that I’m thrilled by the prospect of signing Austin, especially given that his wages are astronomical. Based on what I saw of him last season, he’s not the player he was a few seasons ago. As mentioned above, fear this would be a Lambert signing.

If it is true we are intested, It’s very short term thinking. It does nothing for the development of the squad long term. We need to start looking to the future as we have a few players that we will need transition out over the next season or two. Thinking Hoilett, Bamba, Tomlin and Pack.

Don’t know much about the lad from Barnsley but he’s a good age and could play for us for years if he’s good enough. Type of signing we need or looking at youngster from a Prem team.

Not for me, think he would bring more problems than goals.
Get the Tyke lad in.

Re: ‘ Charlie Austin ‘

Not for me absolutely stupid wages for the player he is these day the lad from Barnsley looks a much better bet paticularly if we could get him on the cheap at about £2 million. Reading a Barnsley forum they all rate him highly and think he is worth a lot more than what we are likely to pay for him. He has been off form recently and has only scored one goal in the last 15 games and that was a penalty. Barnsley fans reckon that is because their new manager is using him in midfield rather than as a striker which is a bit bafflingly considering he was scoring prolifically when he was used as a forward. Had a very good partnership with Moore too when they were together at Barnsley.

Could be am inspired signing at a good price if we use him wisley. Would certainly make me think we had a decent chance of the playoffs if we got him. Do think Austin's best days are behind him and Woodrow is a much better fit with Moore.

An over the hill injury prone hasbeen, no thank you. I think WBA are trying to get even as we sold them big Ken for massive money that he wasnt worth :happy1:

We’re linked with him every year. I’d be very surprised if he came, although there’s no denying he’d be a good striker at this level

He would be a great addition at this level possibly 20+ striker?

Is he on 70k a week?

If WBA are desperate to get him off their books the Club should offer 20k a week and let them pay the extra 50k a week. If that is what he gets paid?

Included in that they should add a clause that if he is out injured he only gets 10k a week from us.

I’m sure whoever he signs for in the Championship and he stays fit he will score goals. Danny Ings left Liverpool after years of bad injuries and Southampton have come up trumps with that one.

Is he worth a punt if the money is right, of course he is. Just look at the money we have spent on strikers on the past 7 yrs!

No thanks, we don't need a fat, injury-prone overpaid poser.

Reported Cardiff City target Charlie Austin turns down Derby County

Tom Coleman

Tuesday 13th October 2020

Charlie Austin is reportedly likely to stay at West Bromwich Albion.

That's according to Football Insider, who claim Austin has turned down the chance to join Derby County before Friday's deadline for domestic transfers.

That comes despite the alleged intervention of former England international Wayne Rooney, who reportedly contacted Austin personally in a bid to a persuade him to move to Pride Park.

Recent reports had linked Cardiff City with a possible move for the 31-year old, who has fallen down the pecking order under Slaven Bilic, having not played a single minute of Premier League football since the beginning of the season.

However, a stay with the Premier League club now looks to be on the cards.

As well as the Rams, a loan move to the Welsh capital had also been suggested, and it was understood that the Baggies were potentially willing to pay a portion of the player's wages in order to move the striker on.

Austin, whose contract at the Hawthorns expires next summer, netted 10 goals in 34 Championship appearances last season, and his proven pedigree in the Championship will likely capture the attention of any side hoping for a top six finish this season.

The strength of Cardiff's interest in the forward isn't clear, but these latest reports mean the Bluebirds may now have to look elsewhere.

It's understood the club remain in discussions with Barnsley over a move for Cauley Woodrow, although reports in South Yorkshire suggest the two clubs have not yet agreed on a valuation.
