Contact has been made by Cardiff City for a new defender

As exclusively revealed by Football League World, Cardiff City are among several Championship sides including Middlesbrough and QPR in the chase to sign Barnsley’s Alex Mowatt.

The former Leeds United central midfielder’s future at Oakwell is still up in the air, with talks over a new contract at the club stalling.

Contact has been made by the Welsh club, Barnsley have said they would want a transfer fee.

Mowatt did sign a new deal back in May until 2021 when a clause was activated in his contract by the Tykes, but he’s yet to commit to a further extension.

I always thought him to be a solid midfielder

He is definately a midfielder not a defender. Pretty good player but I have never thought of him as a paticularly creative Tomlin type more the solid hard working sort who gets a few goals. Would be worth having but would not dramatically change our season.
