CARDIFF’S STAR STRIKER BIG WORRY FOR HARRIS AND GIGGS

Fri Oct 09, 2020 6:14 am

Cardiff City’s star striker Kieffer Moore is set to have a scan ahead of Wales' Nations League clash with Republic of Ireland after he was forced off the pitch during his side's 3-0 defeat to England.

The striker led the line for the visitors at Wembley but was replaced by Neco Williams six minutes before half time after sustaining a knock to his foot.

Wales manager Ryan Giggs says the Cardiff City forward will be assessed on Friday morning as Wales prepare for their trip to Dublin this weekend.

RYAN GIGGS:

"He's hurt his toe, so we're going to assess it," said Giggs.

"If he has to get a scan, then we're going to try to get a scan in the morning.

"At the moment it's painful, and, of course, if it's bruised heavily then it's going to be painful.

"We won't know until we get a scan on how he is.

"I thought he was a handful tonight, a real threat. The game changed with the goal, and when Kieffer went off, we lost that target.

"Also on set pieces, where we conceded two bad goals, he's a big part of that, defending set pieces. So it's a blow, but we've got other options as well."

NEIL HARRIS:

“I am awaiting a report from Giggs on Kieffer, at the moment it does not sound to good , but the lad is having a scan today, so I will hear later, let’s hope it’s only bruising.”

Robert Glatzel and Mark Harris are Neil Harris’s other strikers that are available to him for Cardiff’s next game away to Preston.

'Pointless' — Wales and Cardiff City fans rage after Kieffer Moore limps out of England friendly

It's a potentially big blow for Wales - and Cardiff City

By Tom Coleman

Friday 9th October 2020

Wales have suffered a potentially huge blow ahead of their UEFA Nations League double-header with the Repulic of Ireland and Bulgaria, after star striker Kieffer Moore limped out of ther friendly with England at Wembley.

The Cardiff City man was forced off five minutes before half-time following a coming together with England goalkeeper Nick Pope, and appeared to be suffering a problem with his toe.

Moore tried to carry on, but was hauled off by boss Ryan Giggs, who now faces an anxious wait on the 28-year old's fitness.

An injury to Hal Robson-Kanu leaves Wales worryingly short of options ahead of two crucial games and Giggs' decision to play Moore in the behind-closed-doors friendly has already been placed under scrutiny my fans, many of whom took to Twitter express their dismay.

Fans lamented Moore picking up the problem in a "pointless" game, while others expressed their concern at the "oversight" from Giggs in not picking more strikers.

One simply said: "This is why we should have treated it like the friendly it is and not played our starting players".

Cardiff City fans are likely to be doubly anxious about the extent of Moore's injury, given the forward is an instrumental part of Neil Harris' plans.

"Kieffer Moore off injured in a stupidly pointless friendly. More great news for Cardiff City," was one assessment.

The extent of Moore's injury isn't yet clear - and fans will be hoping his withdrawal was nothing more than a precautionary measure.
