Cheltenham 2 Plymouth 0

A promising debut for Cardiff Cuty’s Tom Sang at Cheltenham last night as they beat Plymouth 2-0 in the Leasing.com Trophy South Group F.

Tom played right wing back in the first half but shifted to number 10 after half time as Cheltenham went to a 4-3-3 formation.

He impressed throughout but made more of an impact in the second half and set up Reuben Reid for the first of his two goals. He seems happy in either position and while that versatility can sometimes be a curse rather than a blessing it looks like he's gone to a club that will make good use of it.

Good luck to him. Sadly though, that's his level, much like everyone else produced by our academy.

He’s not from our academy though mate? We’ve just signed him man u, with a view to loan out.

He's a great talent and loaning him was the right thing to do as he hasn't played much league football.

I also think that despite our poor academy/U23 teams in recent years, there is some talent in there.

Difficult to get a full match report but it seems he had a good game. That said Plymouth fielded a weak side including a sixteen year old making his debut. Can't draw too many conclusions from the match. Let's see if he played well enough to get in Cheltenham's first team at the weekend. Let's face it if he wants to play regularly for a championship side he will need to establish himself in Cheltenham's side and be their best player pretty quickly.
