I want a cup run!

Tue Oct 06, 2020 11:33 am

Some of my favourite memories have been cup runs, going far in a cup is exciting for fans. I know promotion is everything these days with the money involved, just think the club should try harder to progress in them!! Brings a feel good factor to the club that is missing at times :ayatollah:

Totally agree Thomas, cup runs not only lift the fans, but it brings money in to our club and I personally love cup runs, excitement :thumbright: :bluebird: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluescarf:

The cup draw was great...waiting for our number to get called and praying for a massive club.

its a real shame...and something kids growing up will never experience... if that Leeds game were to happen now there is every chance it would be a mix and match Leeds team and nothing like the team they put out that day..

It should be the third champions league spot, i think they don't have to do the first round, unlike the 4th spot.

It would keep everyone on their toes and not take it for granted.

The cup games were always special , playing teams from higher leagues was always a great afternoon evening game the fans loved. The club would get a better crowd for cup games.
Over the years i have been lucky to see City play in cup semi finals 1 European Cup Winners cup -- 1 FA cup --- 2 League cup -numerous Welsh Cup.
Can remember waiting to hear live draws to see who we would get in next round. Not the same anymore but at least i still have the memories.

I love Fa Cup games but i feel the fun has gone out of it now we are a bigger club. Over the years when we were in div three or four and drawing Qpr , Bristol rovers , luton etc who were big compared to us was amazing

Cup runs were great at one time, and the two best days of the season were the 3rd round draw, ears stuck to the radio at 12.30 on the Monday following the second round, and 3rd round day itself, always the first Saturday in January. Most smaller clubs would have huge gates if drawn at home to a top side. I was in a 55,000 crowd against Arsenal and 50,000 against Leeds at the end of the sixties or early seventies. Now we've had a string of managers who put a team of fringe players and youngsters out and get done by a long list of lower division clubs at the first stage, it pisses me off. Can anything beat our two Wembley cup finals recently?

I concur with all that's been said.

The FA Cup especialy was great, as was the League and Welsh Cup. The draw was exciting, and there were some fantastic memories.

I think the damage that's been done is ireversable now though if I'm honest, it will never be the same again.
