Last time we got big money for a player?

Mon Oct 05, 2020 5:59 pm

I honestly can’t remember. That’s a huge difference between us and other clubs. They have been getting money for players. We haven’t had big money in a long while.

Zohore? We got money back on Bobby Reid, it’s not like we have many players here that are those flair players attracting big money.

Correct nearly £20million between the two players in the last 16 months :bluebird:

Neil

Fulham have completed the permanent signing of forward Bobby Decordova-Reid for £11million from fellow Championship side Cardiff City, for an undisclosed fee. The 26-year-old spent the first half of the season on loan at Craven Cottage, scoring four goals in 25 appearances. January 2020

Then there was Kenneth Zohore.

But don’t forget we hardly ever pay big money for players and that has been like that for many many years, in fact we’ve never been big spenders .

According to our Management Warnock spent £100m in his 3 years, and Malky a similar amount that’s a lot of money? And apparently Zohore was a Tan signing for another of his clubs for peanuts? Also we didn’t make any profit on Reid, we just got our money back! Clubs like Brentford and the Jacks make millions by unearthing and developing top footballers, while we continue to fill our squad with journeymen!

I take what the Committee says with a pinch of salt.

Yes we made on both players :thumbright: :bluebird:

The only manager that cost our club £millions upon £millions was Ole a fact and they backed him all the way and he achieved minus zero.

With Malky & Warnock they both brought in hundreds of £millions through promotions :thumbright: :bluebird:

We are today surviving on Warnock’s last promotion money .

Oh sorry my bad. I wasn’t very clear. Rushing pre dinner.

I meant big money for a player like a Ramsey, Johnson etc where we bought cheap and developed them although I suppose Zohore could be classed as that.

Reid we paid money for sold him for not much more.

Yeah Zohore 8 million when didn’t cost much was one I missed.

Reid we paid big for sold for a similar amount.

I wasn’t very clear in my thinking.

Look at Rodon at Swansea and Watkins at Brentford for what I meant and I should have been clearer.

Big spenders under Sam. Relative to the time and where we were.

Those were rollercoaster times.

I remember when we signed Kavanagh and Peter Thorne. So happy. What we could do with them two now.

Yes I thought that was what you might be saying but it was a bit ambiguous and I understand why other posters were pointing to Zorhore etc.

For the record I can't think of anyone we have sold for big money after coming through the Academy or bought cheap and sold high since the Roger Johnson or Aaron Ramsey days.

I agree with Zohore tbh as we got him cheap and sold for a lot.

That committee is useless.

We have sold a fair few players for well below their worth, McCormack, Gested, Marshall, Etheridge being examples. Did well with Joe Mason mind.

the last time we had a seriously big fee was for Tosh...which i believe was the most any club paid for a player in that season... even with Ramsey the fee was more for potential...
