I prefer the Original Monkeys version,,,, they couldn’t sing, they couldn’t play,,, but they did have a go,,, and were funny on TV.

Agreed the Monkey's TV programme was funny even if they couldn't play or sing properly.

A long time ago I tried to put a chant together and posted in on the message board. It got slammed. I read it back and realised what a pig's ear I had made of it.

Why?! I find them endearing good or bad. Life doesn't have to be that serious

Actually my favourite threads are new chant suggestions. Trouble is we are not very good at producing new material.
It does sadden me that we have to nick songs off other teams and don't produce our own.
I have tried but frankly I was no good. So if there are some terrace Ed Sheeran's out there get going and find some class songs.

Dolenz actually had a good voice, and I think Nesmith was a session man before the Monkees.. Tork also a multi-instrumentalist..they did have some very good writers tho',
The drum stifles any creativity, and the lot in 104 are too far away..they have some bizarre songs, but also some goodies

One regret that I have was not going to their reunion concerts many years ago. I’m sure they played At the Motorpoint?

Good effort and no offence intended but our fans are never gonna be able to sing that, it's way too tuneful, got guitar riffs between lines, long pauses etc. It would be nightmare trying to get it co-ordinated between fans, similar to the La Bamba/Sol Bamba tune that always used to be attempted.
The best chance of a successful football chant that sticks needs to be fairly monotone, quite simple rhythmically and doesn't have too much pausing and changing of pace. Allez Allez for example or the Magic Hat, both have quite long lyrics but they're simple to remember.
As another poster said though I like seeing people making an effort

Love the magic hat
