A forum for all things Cardiff City

There is still strong talk that one or more players could leave Cardiff City before deadline day on the 16th October.
As Neil Harris says he needs 3-4 new players Asap.
So far this season City have already departed with Callum Paterson the latest high-profile name to follow Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Danny Ward, Neil Etheridge, Omar Bogle and Matthew Connolly out the door.
Saving at least £500,000 a month on wages.
Plus bringing in potentially £1.5mill in from the sales of Neil Etheridge & Callum Paterson.
And of course Cardiff are one of the lucky ones in the Championship who have just received £36mill from Sky in parachute payment.
Cardiff have signed Kieffer Moore for £1.5mill and 2 loan signings Jordi Osei-Tutu and Sheyi Ojo.
Neil Harris did publicly say that he was very happy with his current squad and it was big enough but after the defeat at home to Reading Harris has now publicly said on two occasions that he needs ASAP at least 3-4 positions as he has no back up.
During Neil Harris 10 month reign he has signed one player permanently and 21 players have left City 11 first team players and 10 under 23 players.

surely we need to see 1 or 2 coming in before getting rid of anymore? Other than youth going out on loan or maybe flint/Bamba going we don't really have a lot of cover for the starting 11 as it is.

Bamba, Hoilett and Vassell out!

I’ve mentioned these three players in resent posts, regarding potential player departures,,, in IV’s case, mutually termination of contract. Who knows what’s going to happen? There has to be question marks regarding any squad players not featuring in the first 18,,,, Gavin Whyte being one of them, IMO...

No one would touch Vassell with a ten foot barge pole given his injury record. Doubt very much if anyone would come in for Bamba either given his age. Hoilett would have a few takers but possibly we should keep him with Murphy and Ojo being so inconsistent.
Noticed Tom Sang was an unused subsistute for Cheltenham despite Cheltenham using all three subsistutes last Saturday. How bad is it that the youth team player supposedly nearest the first team can't get a game for league one Cheltenham, does it suggest the cupboard is still completely bare at youth team level. No youth team player on the bench at Blackburn either.

Unless we release more players, we only need a top class replacement for Tomlin who can then act as a back up and another right back.We will then have two players for each position and can use our best youngsters as back ups, otherwise we will never develop our Academy players. What’s the point of loading up our squad with expensive journeymen who sit in the stands?

IMO Bamba to old, Hoilett to slow, let’s hope their mate NW takes them late!
Whyte I’d keep, he is young and should be given a chance.
Vassell pay him off and let him get really fit this opening up a spot.
I’d hope we get 2 in by the end of the day and a further 2/3 before 16th

Tom Sang didnt come on for a very good reason the 3 players that went iff were all injured like for like subs

There is a good chance this season is going to be a very long one in terms of what we are going to have to endure in football terms. 36 million from Sky is straight in Tans bank account.
Always used to hear Dalman and Choo on how great everything is, now not a whisper. Are we worse off than is being let on?
Getting rid of so called future players makes me ask are we going down the road of getting rid of the academy and just bouncing along in the Championship, or potentially League 1 for the next however many years if financially we can last that long.
Lots of question, very few answers

As a fan, the lack of investment is shit. But can you blame Tan though for not spending? We already owe him a lot of money and the pandemic has probably hit him pretty hard. Its easy for us to say he should be spending all this money because its not our money. I do agree though it could be an uphill struggle if we don't see at least 2-3 players come in.

It looks like Bamba is being lined up for a coaching position so likely to stay and may as well provide cover at CB.
Hoilett isn't setting the world alight at the moment but probably our safest bet as a winger at the moment. Murphy too inconsistent/lazy, Ojo unproven and Whyte not good enough from what we've seen.
Whyte is 25 in January so I'm not sure how much more he will improve now. But will anyone offer him a deal that will pay the same wages that we are ?
As for Vassell, why pay him off ? He's injured and, understandably, won't walk away from a contract. We'd have to pay off his full contract, so may as well keep him and if he does finally get fit.
If we really need to raise money I'd try and find a buyer for Murphy but I just can't see anyone paying decent money for him or his wages.

Neil Harris hoping for additions
Neil Harris was asked if he was looking to get some further additions on board before the close of the window.
Here's what he's had to say....
"I do hope so.
"The leaders, the young players coming through, the flair players, the resilience, I'm really pleased with it.
"But as a manager you always want more, so we'll have to see what happens over the next two weeks."
"I am hoping I can use the the transfer money from Callum Paterson to bring in another striker and hopefully a few more players."

Correct, where did this idea of Tan pocketing the TV money come from !!??
The club has very little income right now and a wage bill that needs to be paid, where do people think that money is coming from !!?? On top of that we've signed a player for £2m and two loanees from top 6 premier clubs who will not be on a pittance !!
I know we've got rid of players but so have many other Championship clubs, these are tough times but, financially, we are lucky that Tan is here otherwise things would be very worrying.

Wez agree we need competition for Tomlin but we have 4 wingers and 4 strikers but only one young inexperienced right back so I think that’s the 2 urgently required unless we shift more players ?
Mon Oct 05, 2020 11:07 am
We need a genuine passing midfielder as it looks that Harris is going to stick to this passing it in dangerous areas for little gain philosophy. We desperately need an upgrade on Pack if we continue with this. He isn’t that great a passer if you look at key passes (none of them are) but his lack of mobility stops any form of press, so we relinquish far too much real estates in the middle of the park. IMO, we looked more dangerous with the three mobile lads playing 10M further up field after the Covid break then Pack sneaked back into the reckoning. But that system doesn’t allow Tomlin a starting berth. But, a spine of Tomlin, Pack leaves the third midfielder far too much to do.
We could go “ballsy” again and only go three at the back as Cunningham is a bit like Ben Davies where his size should allow him to drop into a 3. Nelson Morrison and Cunningham with Tutu and Bennett could be interesting
Our midfield quartet are all championship level with IMO Joe Ralls being the prized asset as he is left footed and can do everything well by championship standards. If we have to sell him so be it, if it means getting a “unwanted” lower premier league standard central midfielder.
I wanted to see an evolution of Warnockball, we just needed to add a bit of variety, it didn’t need to be so systematic.
Passing from the back without the skills is daft. It’s the championship you are not the complete footballer otherwise you’d been snapped up by premier league teams by now. If Gunnar could pass, If Whitts could run, if Bothroyd sorted his head out…..this list goes on.
The squads MO was fit, quick, strong, committed and played to the game plan regardless.
Bacuna,Vaulks & Ralls don’t give you a second on the ball, that also protects the back 4, granted, it doesn’t offer that much creativity but they will steal ball to give to a Junior of two years ago or a Murphy if he is not expected to cover the full back a chance to go for the jugular !!!
Ask yourself who from our squad minus Smithies, Morrison Murphy (at a huge loss) and Moore would any club want to buy ?
Someone may feel that Junior could do a job he just needs new scenery.
Hopefully we can have season long swap for Flint
Then it’s any one of the midfielders, probably Ralls
If Paterson was stolen for £500k how much do you think another club would offer for Tomlin ?
We have sold all we can sell, we do need 2 possibly 3 STARTERS not squad players if this season is not just a transition try to stay in the division year.

Murphy, along with Joe Ralls, are probably the only players who could command a decent fee,,, but in Murphy’s case, not half as much as what we paid for him. Bamba’s coaching future has been well known for a while,,, but at what club?
Could City afford to create a position fo him, under the current financial constraints??
Hoilett wouldn’t surprise if he left on a free, Whyte could come in handy when injuries take their toll over a long season, and as for IV, if there was enough money in the pot now, I think he’d be gone,,,, We’ve just got to bite the bullet on him I’m afraid,,,it’s just a matter of time.

Absolute bullshit that 36 million goes straight into Tan’s account. It probably goes into yours.
You can’t just write rubbish with no facts. Well you can but shouldn’t be able to.

Its the same every season people saying about where do fans think the money is coming from etc
obviously this season is an exeption but we are no different to the other clubs they have same things to spend on
and was it the end of this season that we where going to be somewhere near debt free and with parchute payments still
some other clubs move on sheffield wolves not so long ago newcastle and leicster where championship clubs w.b.a.have been up and down like a brides nightie
Imo harris is overdue in bringing a few players in and there are bargains to be had in the present climate.
