“ LEE TOMLIN? “

Sun Oct 04, 2020 2:33 pm

A red card to Lee Tomlin was the biggest flashpoint of the match.

Manager Neil Harris bemoaned the referee's performance up at Ewood Park, branding him "abysmal at best" and pointed to the first yellow card the playmaker received for a soft coming-together with Tyrhys Dolan on the hour mark.

But while that might well have been a poor decision, I don't think anyone can have any qualms with the fact Tomlin was sent off.

Having watched the footage back, it really was a petulant, thoughtless act from a player who is very experienced at Championship level.

Tomlin sprinted across and body checks Sam Gallagher, who is going nowhere near his own box, with a stiff arm across the chest, making no attempt to play the ball.

He left his team, who were in the ascendancy at the time, to play the final quarter with a man down, which was utterly criminal at that stage of the game.

We have lavished a lot of plaudits on Tomlin over the last 12 months or so, and rightly so, but he should have known better.
