Like a lot of teams gamble on gaining promotion to the Premier League by spending big money in the Championship, and many teams who get promoted gamble on being able to stay up by spending big money when they get there.

Spending large sums of money is certainly no guarantee of safety (Fulham being a prime example) but spending relatively little (like us last time) is rarely a good way of staying up.

United have made a £10m profit on what was a huge mistake signing him in the first place. Almost doubled his price by being a Man United player, he was overpriced when he went to United from the gypos.

In reality Malky spent over £60 million and Warnock had around £50mill made available for transfers
Add multi millions more spent in the seasons before and after promotion and we have spent a fortune chasing the premier League dream

Malky was given decent money. and love him or loathe him its impossible to judge how that might have turned out without the on going conflict in the background.. .times had moved on{ transfer fees } by the time NW took over , and 33 mill on a team , man for man everyone knew was already punching well above its weight was never going to scratch the surface.. hand on heart you know this. i accept we are who we are but it frustrates me more when people pretend there was backing when there was not....33 mill and yet everyone bar you and a few hundred dreamers were convinced we were coming down with bells on... there was good reason for that Wez... its the squad was miles off and who we had brought in were nowhere near good enough to bridge the gap... yes danny james = 25 mill...greg cunningha,m = ?
its the same when out shopping mate.. no good complaing the haslet doesnt taste like fillet steak..

He's clearly a decent player and will develop under the right manager (OGS is certainly not that) and I believe a spell under Bielsa will see him blossom

One thing you can never take away form the lot down the road is their ability to make players look the business before selling them on at great profit only to see them not achieve their perceived potential

'He's top of our list!' Leeds United owner Radrizzani goes public on chase for Man Utd star Daniel James but reveals problem

Reports of an imminent £25m bid for the Wales international are understood to be wide of the mark

Leeds United owner Andrea Radrizzani has admitted that Daniel James is at the top of their transfer wishlisht - but has seemingly played down the chances of a deal being done in this window.

The Wales winger started 35 games for United last season, but has seemingly fallen out of favour under boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, a situation that has fuelled speculation linking him with a move to Elland Road.

Reports on Saturday morning suggested Leeds were preparing a £25m bid for the winger, although sources close to the player have told WalesOnline there is no sign of an incoming bid at this stage.

A loan departure is also understood to be off the table completely.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was believed to be prepared to sell James in order to fund a big money bid for long-term target Jadon Sancho, although the United board were, in contrast, allegedly reluctant to let go of the 22-year old.

Should United decide to sell the Welshman, there is certain to be interest from across the Penines, with Radrizzani confirming that James is their top transfer target.
