Boris Johnson selfish inconsiderate idiot

Sat Oct 03, 2020 7:05 am

Has he not realized that people are ignoring him :banghead:

Boris Johnson has rejected a call by First Minister Mark Drakeford to ban people travelling from Covid hotspots in England to Wales.

People living in locked down areas of Wales can only leave with a "reasonable excuse" but there is no equivalent rule elsewhere in the UK.

It means people from locked down areas of England can holiday anywhere in Wales not under local restrictions.

However the prime minister said he did not want to introduce limits on travel.

"I don't want to impose travel restrictions within the UK generally," he said.

"We are all one country, people should exercise their common sense.

"They should follow the guidance. And that's what we're going to do." :laughing5:

Mr Drakeford told Members of the Senedd on Monday he had written to the prime minister urging him to impose a ban on non-essential travel in local lockdown areas in England, in the same way the Welsh Government has in Wales.

He said it was only "fair" to have the same rules on either side of the border.

"As we act to prevent people who live in hot spots in Wales from travelling to England, and taking the risk of the virus with them, so the prime minister ought to do the same to prevent people from English hot spots from travelling elsewhere because of the risk that that undoubtedly poses," he said.

While people are unable to go on holiday to any areas of Wales under local lockdown, many of the country's popular tourist attractions are in places where prevalence of the virus remains relatively low.

In an interview for Politics Wales, Mr Johnson said he heard Mr Drakeford's concerns "loud and clear" but dismissed imposing travel restrictions in the immediate future.

Mr Johnson said he was open to taking further measures in the future "if it's necessary".

"Of course we will look at that and I hear what Mark Drakeford is saying loud and clear," he said.

"But what we want to do is drive down the virus across the whole country, but particularly in the hot spot areas, and that's why we've put in the measures that we have.

"We do want to make sure people are responsible and I urge people who are coming from areas where there is a high rate of infectivity not to thoughtlessly go and risk spreading it.

"The most important thing is to drive the virus down across the whole country and that's what we are doing together." :banghead:

The problem We have at the moment as I see it is that the government are being reactive instead of proactive. They only want to do something when the situation gets out of control instead of stopping it getting to that point in the first place .

Money is being put before health

We have no chance of beating this virus whilst travel in and out of lockdown areas is allowed and foreign travel is permitted. All holidays should be banned until March next year to allow us as a island to get rid of this virus, whatever we do is pointless if people just keep going abroad and bringing more and more back with them. Same goes for the local lockdowns nobody in or out until its contained.

Drakeford has no strategy or clue what to do other than keep the people of Wales locked down and under his control for as long as possible.

Wales was under stricter lockdown restrictions for longer than any other part of the UK and currently has the highest percentage of it's population in local lockdown (23% of the population of England currently in local lockdowns, 32% of the Scottish population and 76% of the Welsh population according to Wales Online).

Lockdown restrictions were imposed in areas of Wales when the infection rates for those areas were under the WAG's own "target" rate of 50 persons per 100,000 with areas being given a day's notice at most. Now he's saying that any lifting of restrictions will be gradual and the infection rate will have to fall consistently over a period of time before any easing of restrictions. He has no intention of letting go of the power he is enjoying so much.

Pembrokeshire was inundated with visitors from England and elsewhere over the summer months and yet there has been no "spike" in infections there or in many of the other tourist areas in west and north wales so why should the tourist industries in those areas be decimated on one man's whim?

Not only should people from England be able to travel to Wales (subject to social distancing, hand washing, masks etc) but even more importantly, people from Wales should be able to travel to Wales as well.

Much of this is political by Drakeford. He wants to keep as many people as Wales in lockdown for as long as possible and will expect Westminster to pay for it. If a safe, viable vaccine ever becomes available you can guarantee that the people of Wales will be the very last in line to be provided with it, or the Welsh "scientists" will find a reason why it's not acceptable.

Drakeford needs to take his knee off the neck of the Welsh people and the Welsh economy.
