Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Callum Paterson has completed a move to Sheffield Wednesday, subject to international clearance.

Callum Paterson Signs for Sheffield Wednesday for a straight £500,000 upfront.

The Scotland international arrived in the Welsh capital in the summer of 2017 and went on to net ten goals in that season's promotion campaign.

He led the Bluebirds' line in the Premier League on 27 occasions, adding four top-flight strikes, before passing 100 appearances in the City shirt last season.

We thank Callum for his contribution over the past three seasons and wish him all the very best for the future.

Hearts will receive a percentage of Callum Paterson’s transfer fee after he moved from Cardiff City to Sheffield Wednesday.

The Hillsborough club are reported to be paying around £500,000 for the Scotland internationalist, earning Hearts in the region of £75,000.

I for one would of kept Paterson, but thats just my opinion.

Be interesting to see now what happens to the £500,000 especially as Neil Harris has gone public and asked for the money ASAP :bluebird: :bluebird:

I'd imagine it is quite hard to sell an injured player.

A very good servant to Cardiff City one of many Scots over the decades made their mark at the club - Insiders may know why this has happened - is it raising funds or - personalities - wish him well at Wednesday - Harris no doubt wheeling dealing -only at the end of transfer deadline day will we be able to make conclusions about the direction of travel

Sheffield Wednesday announce £500,000 signing of Callum Paterson from Cardiff City

The versatile forward has left the Bluebirds after three successful years at the club

Wednesday 30th September 2020

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Callum Paterson from Cardiff City in a deal believed to be worth around £500,000.

Scotland international Paterson grew to become a fans' favourite over the course of three seasons at Cardiff City Stadium, but has struggled for regular inclusion in Neil Harris' starting lineup.

He had fallen further down the pecking order this term after the Bluebirds signed Wales international Kieffer Moore from Wigan Athletic and it appears the Scot has moved to Hillsborough in search of regular action.

Paterson will be remembered fondly in this part of the world as the man who helped drive Cardiff City's promotion campaign in his maiden season in 2017/18, scoring 10 goals as Neil Warnock's side finished second in the league.

The 25-year-old utility man then went on to lead the line on a number of occasions during the Premier League campaign, scoring four times in the top flight.

"Sheffield Wednesday are pleased to announce the signing of Scotland international Callum Paterson from Cardiff City for an undisclosed fee," a Sheffield Wednesday statement read on Wednesday afternoon.

"The versatile forward, who received a call-up for the Scottish national side on Tuesday, joins up with the Owls ahead of our clash with QPR on Saturday.

"Welcome to Wednesday, Callum!"

Following the departures of Jazz Richards, Matthew Connolly, Danny Ward, Omar Bogle, Neil Etheridge and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, Paterson is the seventh senior player to leave the Welsh capital club this summer.

In a statement of their own, the Bluebirds wrote: "Cardiff City Football Club can confirm that Callum Paterson has completed a move to Sheffield Wednesday, subject to international clearance.

"The Scotland international arrived in the Welsh capital in the summer of 2017 and went on to net 10 goals in that season's promotion campaign.

"He led the Bluebirds' line in the Premier League on 27 occasions, adding four top-flight strikes, before passing 100 appearances in the City shirt last season.

"We thank Callum for his contribution over the past three seasons and wish him all the very best for the future."

Good luck to Callum, he has been a great servant and a fan favourite because he acts like a fan, he appears to care and give it all even when he is having a shit game.

I was looking at the remaining squad and thought I bet that £500K probably doesn't pay 2 weeks salary and it probably doesn't.

Football had gone insane, I read we have let 20 odd players go and only brought in 3 and we still got a pretty decent 18 man squad by the old days standard.

Perhaps we are ahead of the curve and those who are healthiest in 6 months really pick the spoils.

If £1.5million Keiffer Moore is the standard then 500k for Paterson is about right. The premier league at the top level have gone nuts but the rest of football appears to be taking a reality check.

I think without government help some pretty big names will go through and in all honesty I don't think governments should get involved in private companies, especially non essential stuff like professional sports.

Back to Paterson, never easy to see a favourite in another teams colours but nothing as painful as seeing Whitts in the Blackburn strip. He may be one of the few who's career kicked on after leaving us, but there are not many.

Its a great shame by our club letting go a great talent within our squad for a low sum of money. I personally think Tan just wants to get rid of our best players to save money on the club. I got to say we HAVE TO buy at least 2 more players now, a winger AND a backup striker because all we have got is Moore and Glatzel.

Disappointed to see him go as its always nice to see a player show so much passion. But having a bit part player on high wages sat on the bench every week isnt helping our situation.

Hopefully this allows us to bring in 1 or 2 more players now.

Annis I cannot believe that the powers that be can seriously believe that this squad will be capable of maintaining the Saturday / Midweek schedule we are about to start. Take Flint ( Who isn't getting a look in) and Vassell out and the matchday squad is ALL that is left. Pick up injuries and we will struggle to fill the bench.

As for Callum Paterson I wish him all the best and thank him for some great memories but if we are not going to give him a chance it's best for all concerned he moves on.

As usual, our transfer 'business' (excepting Kieffer Moore) is nothing short of shocking.
I get the need to trim the wage bill in these perilous times but there has to be some quality coming into the club if we're serious about a promotion push. I would say AT LEAST THREE who will play or push for the first 11.
In order of priority:
1. Playmaking central midfielder
2. Established right back ... move Osei Tutu to the wing?
3. Centre back.

Also, could someone from the club actually EXPLAIN what our plan is for developing and recruiting youth players because it sure as sh#t isn't working at the moment.

Oh and all the best Patto you have given everything for city in the time you've been here. Thank you :thumbright:

I totally agree, and I’m glad that you mentioned both Vassell and Flint,,, and in Vassell’s cases I’ve posted earlier that I cannot See him realistically being, and more importantly, making any kind of impact In this, or any other season for that matter. We All hope that he does, or course.
Very disappointing, when all is said and done,,, and after last Summer’s play off experiences, I really thought, and hoped that City had shown a level of intent that, suggested that we were going to push on this season. I can’t help that we have gone backwards,,,, for the second season succession???

Roger,

My personal opinion, they know it wont, but for me it looks like they have lost all interest in our club and just using the £36mill over the next couple of years to keep us afloat while they try and sell us.
