Wed Sep 23, 2020 7:42 pm

The Wrexham Supporters Trust Board would like to thank all members who took part in the Special General Meeting yesterday (Tuesday September 22) and took the time to vote.

As confirmed this morning, 97.5% of voters (1,223 members) voted in favour of the Resolution.

As a result, talks with the proposed bidders will now continue and we are in a position to confirm the two people interested in investing in Wrexham AFC.

Rob McElhenney is an American actor, director, producer and screenwriter, best known as the creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

Ryan Reynolds is an award-winning Canadian actor, writer, producer and business entrepreneur whose credits include Marvel’s Deadpool.

In due course, Mr. McElhenney and Mr. Reynolds will put forward their vision for Wrexham AFC and proposal for members to vote on at a second Special General Meeting.

As the only major club in North Wales, with the right investment they could easily be a Championship club again! We used to have some great games with them in the League and Welsh Cup!

Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney want to take control of Wrexham AFC.

Canadian Deadpool star Reynolds, 43, and McElhenney, creator of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, are set to put forward their vision for the club at a special general meeting.

Members of the Welsh club, which has been fan-owned since 2011 and plays in the National League, voted overwhelmingly for talks to proceed.

More than 95% of the 1,223 Wrexham Supporters Trust member votes cast opted to move to the next stage of the proposals, while 31 voted against it at a special general meeting on Tuesday, September 22.

Reynolds, married to former Gossip Girl star Blake Lively, has starred in numerous blockbuster Hollywood movies and is also a successful entrepreneur, owning stakes in gin and mobile phone businesses. Reynolds has since issued a short message about the takeover bid.

McElhenney is one of the creators and stars of the hugely popular It's Always Sunny comedy series which recently aired for the 14th season in the US.

The BBC report that any potential takeover could lead to £2million being invested in the 156-year-old club.

A Wrexham AFC statement posted on their website on Wednesday said: "97.5% of voters (1,223 members) voted in favour of the Resolution.

Wrexham is credited with being the third oldest professional football club in the world.
