Cardiff City youngster Tom Sang says he hopes his loan spell at League Two side Cheltenham Town will help him 'step up a level' in his development as he bids to become a future Bluebirds star.

Sang has joined the Robins on loan until January 2021, and admits he's relishing the opportunity of regular first team football.

The 21-year old is highly rated by Cardiff, having recently signed a one-year extension to his current deal at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The lack of talent coming through the ranks in recent years hasn't gone unnoticed by many Bluebirds fans, or indeed boss Neil Harris, who has recently stressed the club is doing everything it can to offer its brightest prospects the chance to progress.

Sang, who can play in a number of positions across the midfield, started his youth career at Manchester United, and trained with the first team set-up at Old Trafford under Jose Mourinho.

Having made two competitive appearances for the Bluebirds, Sang believes he is now well-placed to tackle the demands of regular first team football and take the next step in his footballing development.

"I couldn't think of a better place to start playing some games," he told the club's official website.

"The aim for me is to get experience, step up a level and develop myself. It's a huge step forward and there's a lot more when there's points on the line.

"With the whole philosophy about the place I'm just really looking forward to it."

Harris will likely be keeping a close eye on Sang's progress with the Robins, having been left impressed by the youngster's showings in recent months.

Speaking earlier in the season, Harris said: "Tom Sang and Mark Harris are two in particular who have impressed since June and are edging closer to the first-team group.

“We still have to look at their development pathway, whether it’s a loan where they can get regular game time so they come back and be ready for a top-six Championship club.

“It’s just an insight and for the fans to know these young players are training with us and there is a pathway. But they're all going in the right direction.”

At 21, I'd imagine this is a decisive point in his career at City. If he does well there then he'll probably be given a few games here. Can't see him getting much game time here if he fails to impress in league 2 though.
