SKY BREAKING: ‘ PLANS TO ALLOW FOOTBALL FANS “

Tue Sep 22, 2020 8:16 am

Updated:

UK Govt announces that it could be March 2021 to review crowds returning to football Stadium's.

Sky News:

Tuesday 22nd September 2020

Senior Minister Michael Gove today said plans to let football fans back in football stadiums this October are to be paused until next year and will be reviewed in January 2021.

The rise in Cov-19 in the UK is the reason behind this.

Many professional football clubs have accepted that there won’t be fans returning to stadiums this season and some never even put their season tickets on sale.

if we are allowed in stadiums this season I will be amazed now I did think there was a slight possibility with major restrictions but can’t see it happening now

It was fairly obvious that would happen, the timing was all wrong!

To be expected can see football in lower leagues going back to semi professional for couple years at least... but on side note it's ok for four people to meet up with anyone but not ok for individuals or group of 4 to go to stadiums to watch sports...... best thing to do is close country down for 12mnths until virus as gone or vaccine is found? otherwise just have revolving door of lockdown after lockdown every 3months...

It was being too optimistic to think that we could return to grounds with the virus on the increase.
Let's just accept watching football on our TV's this season.
If they try again in the new year and are successful, consider it a bonus!

Always said that it would be 2021 at the earliest so this doesn't surprise me.

I'll be more than happy if the next time I go into a football ground its in Baku to watch Wales v Switzerland. Personally I think the chances of that are not good.

How many season tickets have we sold so far? Can't see many more being sold now. In effect you have paid to watch all the games online. How sad this all is. :bluescarf:

9k apparently... but dont get free city tv.! Just credit for next season , unless you go with club vouchers scheme and pay £10 per game you get £4 aprox deducted from next seasons
credit as it costs more than £10 but club subsidise it .......not best plan but understandable as club need to make some money.

In a way I don't really have much sympathy for those who bought a season ticket.

This was always a very strong possibility and they knew that surely.

True never understood why complain about club for doing the voucher scheme what else can they do I bought my st knowing full well it be long time before get in but it helps the club.....will say one thing club could done was to hold all st holders seats until knew when fans could go to games that way no rush to commit valuable money that may not have?

Hardly a surprise. I can imagine that on an average weekend last year there must’ve been close to 1 million people attending football games in a weekend, give or take a few 10’s of thousands. Even if stadiums opened at 30% capacity which I’ve seen mentioned a few times that’s still 300k people. Saying no crowds is an easy way to stop 300k people a weekend from congregating. 600k different individuals over 2 weekends now have one less reason to be drinking, socialising, using public transport, etc. It’s a shame but I can’t see crowds of more than 30% this season and I can’t see crowds before Christmas apart from a few select clubs doing test events.

Boris is saying restrictions could be for 6mnths so almost certain to scrap this season for going to watch games and large amounts congregating wont be allowed thats for sure..

I think clubs - except PL - are surviving on receipts from Season Ticket sales, probably hoping that by the time the money runs out fans would be returning to stadiums. City still have some parachute payments but I really doubt many clubs will survive into the New Year unless there's a massive financial bail-out from somewhere..

Or you could just consider we got a season ticket to help support our club and arent asking for sympathy.

Most bought st for that purpose... but there as been fans having go at club in way they offered alternatives to being at ground like city tv streaming? Not sure why fans expected refund as must have known wont see a game for ages and fans like me knew credit for next season will happen to replace this season's missed games, but obviously some didn't think of that :o

Spot on. That’s the way I looked at it. I bought my season ticket and 2 of my daughters knowing that we might not get to watch them at our stadium this season but certainly not until January.
I love my club and I’m glad I can support it financially albeit a small percentage. They will give me credit for next season plus I can watch our home games on my tv so I’m happy. I want Cardiff City to survive beyond this season, there’s not going to be many clubs that can say that unfortunately and I do feel for their supporters.

Same.. I'm fine watching from home.. I even have a good excuse for the wife ... "it's a paid subscription darling "

Someone made a comment some time back that resonated with me. How could we expect Vincent tan to put money in if we arent prepared to do so too.

I'd have bought my season ticket anyway. But that comment made it a certainty.

When you support a Club you do it vocally, emotionally and financially, because you love that Club. This is a time to support our Club in any way we can. :bluescarf:
