There were two notable absentees against Forest in Aden Flint and Josh Murphy.
Flint has not been involved in any of the two match-day squads, with Harris giving the nod to Sol Bamba as the back-up defender on the bench.
The manager usually opts for only one defender among the replacements, favouring attacking players in case he needs to chase a goal late on.
But it now means Flint's situation at Cardiff City is a curious one.
He was brought in for £4m by Neil Warnock, no small change in this division, and is seemingly fourth-choice centre back.
He is too good and has too much experience at this level to be plying his trade with the under-23s - he started the 5-1 hammering by Swansea City's under-23s last week - so, what does the future hold for him?
With his contract up in the summer of 2022, one would think he still has quite a fair transfer value and would bolster a number of Championship squads.
He seems to be far too much of a luxury not to have in the match-day squad and the player, too, will doubtless want to seek regular minutes elsewhere.
"With Aden it was purely a selection decision," Harris said of the player's omission after the match.
"I didn't want to go with two centre halves on the bench, I wanted different options, and Sol got the nod."
His situation might well be one to watch over the coming weeks.
Josh Murphy is injured
Murphy's absence, too, raised a number of questions among the supporters' fan base, but Harris sought to clear that up after the match by revealing the winger has been struggling with a hamstring issue.
"Josh has an injury, hamstring, hoping he will be back on the training pitch this week, but not 100 percent confident on that, but certainly not a long-term injury."
