The most recent additions include attacking midfielder Brennan Johnson — a Welsh under-21 international who could soon be fast-tracked into the senior side to fend off any potential interest from England

Thought idea of academies was to produce youngsters for 1st team not to spend years and millions ££££s producing talent then go sell them ? Brentfords plan better get in young foreign players make them better then sell them spent £60m but sold £170m of talent.

Brentford’s would be the model I'd also choose. :old: :bluebird:

same here... i think the academy obsession with some revolves around a relatively small period of time where our area was rich in talent that never happened before and might not happen for ages again...

The idea is academies should be the stepping stone,I know reading have produced umpteen players who have gone on to play for the 1st team, but very few get sold for big bucks! We will produce the odd nugget, but we also need to be scouting further afield than the uk. :old: :bluebird:

Wasn't aware of that; but the Forest situation was mentioned during the game and it's a darned sight better than we've achieved, as the players sold all became Forest first team regulars before being sold on :thumbright:

Rules don't help when someone like Rabi Montado can leave for a pittance and earn Man City millions next to no time later.

The word Academy is grossly overused. Every Welsh league club has one ffs!

I though academies had to recruit local lads within travelling distances?

I remember when Crewe used to survive off the money they made selling the youngsters as they progressed from their academy .
Part of the problem has been that as more foreign players have come into the leagues at all levels, the harder it’s been for the academy players to break through and then get sold on.
Our academy hasn’t produced a decent player in years so they have to change what they are doing .

Brentford don't have an accadamy, they scrapped it a few years ago and used the money to bring in overseas players instead or something like that.

Sure I read that somewhere and sure they said it when a young lad was playing for Brighton last year, said he had come from Brentford when they had shut down

rv casual you are correct about brentford many people including myself think they are not worth the money to run when it s cheaper to buy abroad

the top clubs these days have been setting up soccer schools all over Asia and every country in Africa for the next level of athletes .here s an example from liverpool 2015 . you can add all top teams in Europe doing the same thing since then

yes it was definitely regarded as and called an academy , not sure it is now or even if they have anything there , things keep changing regarding criteria for what is and is not an academy and what you need in place to be one of the various categories.... but one way or another they have been enrolling and coaching kids in Bath for years , im sure it goes back to the late 80s..
