NEIL ETHERIDGE PASSES MEDICAL & SIGNS FOR BIRMINGHAM CITY FOR £800,000

Its believed Cardiff City received approx £800,000 plus more if Etheridge makes so many appearances & if Birmingham City are promoted to Premier League.

Etheridge signed a 4yr deal with Birmingham City and will be their first choice keeper.

City will get £200,000 if Etheridge makes 20 appearances, makes it £1mill.

Etheridge wages approx £25,000 a week, because of Prem.

City will get £1mill / plus save £1mill in wages.

NEIL ETHERIDGE / NEIL HARRIS

Etheridge to Birmingham?

NEIL HARRIS:

"Very advanced. He didn’t train today as we gave him permission, so you have a clue there of how advanced it is.

"I wouldn’t be surprised to see Neil at Birmingham in the coming days.

"There is a good transfer fee involved, I’m led to believe. He’s a good Championship goalkeeper and there will be a decent sized transfer fee."

Etheridge to Birmingham 'very close'

Senior sources at Cardiff City have said that Neil Etheridge's move to Birmingham City is 'very close'.

Birmingham are one of a number of clubs understood to have been chasing the goalkeeper this summer.

Birmingham City have made progress in their attempt to find another senior goalkeeper.

Blues appear have had moved forward in their talks with Cardiff City over their back-up Neil Etheridge.

A deal is not yet complete but having been initially happy to wait to see what panned out and go into the campaign with Andres Prieto as their only senior goalkeeper, things have developed.

The Blues have agreed terms with Neil Etheridge and are now close to concluding a deal with the Welsh club Cardiff City.

Etheridge had an option with a Premier League club, believed to be West Ham but that now seems to have come to nothing leaving him facing the prospect of a season on the bench at the Cardiff City Stadium as manager Neil Harris has favoured Alex Smithies.

Cardiff also have Joe Day as another option and Harris has recently said Etheridge could move on if he wished.

With the news about Mendez-Laing i think its more important we keep Etheridge now because we need the quality in the team.

But Etheridge isn't in the team.

Cash in. Use that money, and NMLs that we've saved, to go and buy a bit of quality that will be straight in to the team.

That’s a ridiculous statement. Unless Etheridge has become a top winger over the previous week or so, your comment makes no sense.

From what I've heard, they've just signed a senior keeper. - Why Etheridge would want to move from our bench to Birmingham's bench is anyone's guess.

Personally I'd like to keep him fighting for a spot. Both him & Smithies are excellent keepers. If Smithies is Injured... We've got Joe Day as back up.

Personally don't even think he's worth selling at the minute. Not for the £500,000 that's been quoted. Ridiculous.

Reports say he's on 20k a week. Not sustainable for a backup keeper in the championship especially under current circumstances. Plus he'll leave for free in the summer if he's not sold now

totally agree we shouldnt sell him .. although the guy Brum have signed has had more clubs than 1st team appearances , clubs keep signing him as a back up keeper only to replace him by buying another back up keeper making him 3rd choice... sounds a bit like Steven Byewaters more clumsy brother.. so if he went he probably would be first choice..

Completely unrelated.

Etheridge isn’t a winger.

The more you post the more I think you are suited for Nathan Blake’s job.

This seems like one of those moves that suits everyone. We get a fee for a player we don’t need to replace, save on wages. Etheridge gets first team football and Birmingham get a proven goalkeeper. He’s had some great times with us. Wonder what the fee is

on twitter some Birmingham fans saying 1.5m . Just hope smithies doesn't get injured now

1.5 million would be great for a bench player in the last year of his deal. Fair point I hope smithies stays fit now!

Maybe SamRean is on to something here?

Neil Etheridge on the wing may have been a natural progression? ;)

On a serious note, Neil was a great servant to this club and a great keeper. I wish him nothing but the very best (two games apart, of course) :ayatollah:

Maybe right. Magennis became an international striker.

Never thought about it but a million in salary and £800k fee equates to 5000 season tickets if the average ticket price is £350.

Football has got out of hand.

Think about this as i dont usually agree with some of our sales.

City will get £200,000 if Etheridge makes 20 appearances, makes it £1mill.

Etheridge wages approx £25,000 a week, because of Prem.

City will get £1mill / plus save £1mill in wages.

I swear you must be on acid whenever you post something.

Etheridge hasn't played for months and doesn't play in the same position that Mendez-Laing did.

I think it's a good deal for us Annis.

It's clear that Alex Smithies is our best goalkeeper, he was probably player of the season for me.

Like you say, a decent transfer fee and a lot of money saved on wages for a player who isn't first choice.

Yes I agree. Hardly anything left on his contract with us either so good to cash in.

Absolutely crazy, great keeper, he will do a good job for them, a good bit of business in the current market, hopefully, £2Million in the pot for Harris to spend

Good luck Etheridge, some great saves in the premier season especially

Good business from the club 1 million for him and saved over a million in wages for someone who isn't going to play in his last year of his contract

Best of luck to him....Smithies a better keep but do rate NE....more funds to invest in hopefully creative midfielder ...and NML gone, the wages alone will show a decent saving for the club .

Harris is now building his own squad so hopefully we will see a couple more signings in this season ...
