MY VIEW " STRONG CARDIFF TEAM THRASHED "

POOR RESULT

Neil Harris named a strong team to play Northampton in the Carabao Cup First Round at Sixfields.

Smithies, Osei-Tutu, Morrison, Nelson, Bamba, Bennett, Bacuna, Pack, Hoilett, Murphy, Glatzel

Northampton took a first half lead when Harry Smith scored a penalty after a foul by Jordi Osei-Tutu

Northampton doubled their lead at the start of the second half through Matt Warburton

Ryan Watson added a third for the hosts with half an hour to go

Next up Sheffield Wednesday at home next Saturday in our first league fixture of the season :thumbright:

Totally bullied and outfought in every department. The quality of our play was incredibly lazy and error prone. I know its early season but the only way to describe the teams attitude today was unprofessional. It doesn't matter who the opposition is you have to earn the right to win a game. We didn't want it at all. The only exception was Smithies who made some great saves.
As for Tutu, I am very underwhelmed not convinced at he'll be strong enough for the Championship.

Only decent performance in my eyes was pack, and when I say half decent that’s not a compliment. The back 3 were a shambles, looked ‘slightly’ better when we reverted back to the 4. Hopefully that is the last time we experiment with the back 5. That said the game was already done and dusted. Hoilett and Murphy were not bothered at all about today’s game. And Osei-Tutu probably had the worst competitive debut I’ve seen at Cardiff for a few years. Major cause for concern considering he’s the only recognised RB at the club.

I thought Pack was ok but I think it’s either or with Bacuna. Glatzel showed flashes but Hoilett was awful, as was Bamba in particular. Back to 451 Saturday I reckon with Vaulks and Moore to come in

Back to life, back to reality, and back to the drawing board by the sounds of it. Not the start NH wanted, or expected I’m sure,,, but it’s scant consolation that he’s not the only City manager in living memory to bow out early in this competition. Highly Disappointing all the same.

Bit of a thumping really considering we had a decent looking squad available today but Northampton found it easy to deal with our formation which accommodated 3 central defenders and two full backs, QPR smashed us last time we tried that.
Anyway its a bad start but no real indication of how next week will pan out with a few different players added and reverting back to 4 5 1.
Let's hope its a blip and a kick up the arse early in the season and say well done to Northampton Town on a job well done.
Hopefully it will tempt the club into getting new faces in earlier rather than later

With Tomlin and Ralls both out the midfield is down to the bare bones.
How long is Mendez away for , from looking strong across the middle we now are bare in that dept
The RB looks way off the pace defensively.

With the team we put out we should be winning games against teams like Northampton.

Harris said he takes cup games serious .

I believe and always have in winning every game that’s put in front of you, very disappointed.

Harris needs to forget the three at the back we looked a shambles Nelson showed he was playing out of position. Bamba looks finished fitness is way off where it needs to be Morrison again looked lost playing in a three.
Same old in the middle shear lack of pace and creativity the Arsenal lad looks as though he may struggle in the Championship going on what we saw today. Hoilett sorry Junior another who looks way off where he needs to be fitness wise and lack of pace not hard to see. Murphy I just don’t know what we do with him not interested wins nothing no heart.
Up front have to feel for Glatzel you could have Messi up front wouldn’t make any difference desperately need two wingers with pace who can supply the crosses if we don’t it will make no difference who’s up front Glatzel or Moore.
Not getting to carried away disappointed but next week we start but certainly a lot for Harris to think about still scratching my head on why he’s gone the three at the back though.

We're doomed, Glad we are out of poxy cup, Christ thought it wouldn't be long before Harris gets a target on his back but FFS don't right the season off just yet :D

Sounds dreadful. But it's the cup. Let's not over react! I thought the team looked ultra defensive from the off and had no goals in there

We finished 5th in the arguably the most competitive league in the world and narrowly lost in the playoffs to the team that went on to win it. We should be building on that not looking to change to a formation that the last time we used it in the league we got hammered 6-1.

Hopefully this is an early kick up the arse and we can crack on in the league
