Cardiff City make season ticket concession after Supporters' Trust anger

Cardiff City were accused of being disrespectful to their fans.

The club had initially refused to offer any refund, credit or price reduction for matches played behind closed doors.

The fans were also upset as other clubs like Bristol City were offering their fans full refunds, Cardiff still refuse to do this but will now offer live streaming for their fans.

Saturday 4th September 2020

Cardiff City fans are still not allowed to attend matches, there is some hope that the first game could be 21st October with a 30% crowd capacity allowed.

Cardiff City season ticket holders will now receive some sort of compensation for matches forced to be played behind closed doors.

Bluebirds fans and the Supporters' Trust voiced their anger when season tickets initially went on sale after the club refused to offer any kind price reduction or cash refund on matches where fans were not allowed because of Covid-19 restrictions.

The EFL Championship season kicks off next weekend, with initial games certain to be played with no spectators after the Welsh government refused to grant permission for 10,000 to attend the opening match against Sheffield Wednesday on September 12.

But the Supporters' Trust, who had accused Cardiff of being "disrespectful" over the lack of consultation with fans, today revealed the club will now make a concession.

A streaming pass to the value of £10 will be issued to each supporter which will then be combined with the difference in ticket price to make a pro-rata credit payment to supporters' accounts that can be used towards 2021/22 season tickets.

A Cardiff City Supporters' Trust statement read.: "As members will recall, we raised the issue of the way season tickets were being sold without any formal consultation with supporter groups.

"The club said at the time of the ticket launch in July that they would not offer season ticket holders any price reduction or cash refund in the event of matches being played behind closed doors.

"We thought this was wrong and the Football Supporters’ Federation agreed and also strongly criticised the actions of Cardiff City management.

"However, we’re pleased to say that Nic Heslop, Head of Commercial, has this week written to supporters to say: 'We are now delighted to confirm that the EFL have granted the club the ability to issue a streaming pass to every season ticket holder at the value of £10 including VAT per game.

'The club will then combine the streaming pass along with the difference in ticket price paid to make a pro-rata credit to compensate for any games that season ticket holders are unable to attend. Credits will then be held on each season ticket holders’ account to use towards the 21-22 season ticket.'"

The Trust statement continued: "While the club is not offering immediate pro-rata refunds– unlike some clubs like our rivals at Bristol City – Cardiff City FC has gone some way to recognising the concerns of supporters.

"The Trust has been in contact with the club and anticipate that communication and consultation with fans’ groups will return to the good levels experienced prior to the season ticket announcement issue."

Cardiff City supporters were consulted on season ticket plans before the initial announcement, with the club having held informal conversations with Cardiff City Supporters’ Club.

The Bluebirds added in a statement of their own back in July: "We’d like to take this opportunity to thank you for your outstanding support and loyalty following the first day of 2020/21 Season Ticket sales.

Totally shocking how they expect us to pay 100s for a season ticket when we don’t know when we’ll be able to go to games but then ask us to pay more to watch streamed games

I have international pass for city tv! But think this post is misleading as the deal is all home games and midweek away games are free to st holders thats what the communication was couple weeks ago ...... IT'S Saturday away games that they pay for.... I was told by someone at city I will get credit for games missed through covid .... not very clear communication from club

There will be even more anger towards the club this coming regarding a different but related issue.

Re: ‘ CARDIFF FANS ANGER GETS CLUB ‘

Way I read it is every game behind closed doors , if works out say £15 per home game the club will take £10 out of that and you will have £5 credited to your season ticket the following season. Though if we have a home game that is on sky I wouldn't be happy club essentially charging £10 for that game if can't attend as I would watch on sky

Pricing a streaming code at £10 is laughable, the game will be played and filmed at the CCS with commentators for the highlights regardless whether fans are there or not. There is zero extra cost on behalf of the club to stream it. Furthermore a family of 4 season ticket holders are essentially getting charged £40 to watch the game on TV

The vouchers should be free for season ticket holders and the charge should only apply to non season ticket holders. I can understand the club is struggling financially but we've gone from 19k season tickets to 8k because of the club taking the mick out of fans.

Myself renewed my son renewed as back when the tickets went on sale went something like this if you don’t renew in time here’s a possibility you may lopes your seat you’ve always sat in and may I say we sit with friends at every home game although not happy sounding like being held to ransome as you may lose your seat hey had our money and only ourselves to blame I suppose, I can get all he games any games have done for years, lack of loyalty by the club demanding what steps you can take in being able to watch this season, what they are saying is give us your money or no football for you, let’s go back a bit yeah he golden ticket you buy two for two seasons was told it would go to bring in players for the club no it didn’t it paid of their debt so nothing new here lying bastards, but I I had already said only myself to blame my first game watching down NinianPark was 1964 I’m still watching them now that is their loyalty well it may be go and do one next season    , but I still keep da faith

What happens if you have loads of season tickets you only need one code . So you will lose out of hundreds in my case thousands of pounds. Just shows really the club could not give a toss about the fans

I know the club need income but they should give us the option if we want the stream or not . If we want the stream just let us enter a code online and charge us £10 (though that's steep) and give us the rest back as credit for next season. If we don't want to use the code for a game then just give us the match day equivalent back as credit towards next season. This would solve same household issue and if game is on sky for instance then

Not sure how it works out if you have a season ticket that’s under £10 a game.
I only paid £164 for mine £7+ per game.

Having chosen not to renew my family season tickets due to work commitments but not opting for a refund as I wanted to keep the credit in the accounts and use the money to attend games when I could . I now have £130 credit stuck across 3 accounts that I cannot get a refund on , cannot by match tickets for , cannot buy match streams and after looking today is decreasing in value. Now if that is not unfair I don’t know what is .

This club is a joke asking you to pay £10 to stream a game when you’ve paid over £500 for a season ticket. They still owe me £119 from last seasons ticket, I’ve e- mailed them a couple of times, but have not received any reply. The club is run by crooks and amateur staff. This will be the last time I will support this club. Until someone decent takes over with new staff. I’m not the only one who thinks this as my brother in law emailed them a dozen times about his refund from last year with no reply. He is now taking legal advice. Vincent Tan give us our money back you crook.

St holders get home games free unless city are defying efl and doing their own thing? But seriously doubt they will do this or be allowed to do so by efl..
