Arsenal announce date for fans to return to Emirates stadium in boost to Cardiff City, Swansea and football clubs around country

Gold season ticket holders and premium members are expected to be able to attend the match if the Gunners are granted permission to go ahead with a 30% capacity.

Plans are being made for the return of fans to football matches next month

Arsenal have become the first club to publicly announce plans to bring fans back inside stadiums, in a move that will boost fans of clubs around the UK.

The Premier League side have unveiled plans to allow home fans to return to the Emirates Stadium next month.

The Gunners are the first Premier League club to reveal their plan of moving away from playing games behind closed doors as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

After the 2019/20 season was completed without fans in attendance, the 2020/21 season is set to kick-off this month in similar fashion.

Yet the UK government have signalled their intentions for crowds to begin to return to stadiums in the near future, with non-league clubs below the sixth tier already welcoming fans into grounds.

Last Saturday saw 2,500 fans attend a friendly between Brighton and Chelsea as part of a test event, and its success has provided optimism over the return of supporters on a more regular basis.

The England rugby team earlier announced plans for 20,000 spectators to be allowed inside Twickenham next month.

Any decision on Cardiff and Swansea fans returning will ultimately be taken by the Welsh government, which is monitoring trial events in England.

But Welsh ministers are very keen for a UK-wide approach to the issue.

The Gunners have now confirmed that they are targeting their second home game of the season - against Sheffield United on October 3 - as a potential return date for fans.

Gold season ticket holders and premium members are expected to be able to attend the match if the Gunners are granted permission to go ahead with a 30% capacity.

"In recent months we have been working very hard with the relevant authorities on plans to bring fans back to stadiums, and specifically Emirates Stadium, initially with reduced capacities," said the Gunners in a statement.

"Although our home fixture against West Ham United on Sunday 20 September will be played behind closed doors, based on the current UK Government guidelines, we hope to be able to welcome supporters back to Emirates Stadium on a reduced capacity basis from the Sheffield United game scheduled for Saturday 3 October."

Annis this is good news and a start but unless authorities stop having local lockdowns every time there is a spike in corvid you are going to get a situation where clubs wont be allowed to have fans in whilst others will! below premier league level clubs with no fan income it will only make matters worse for them.

It’s going to be difficult to get many fans in the Cardiff City Stadium while the COVID testing facility is still set up outside.
