GREECE has been added to Scotland’s quarantine list as travellers from there pose a “significant” public health risk.

Travellers arriving from Greece will now be required to self-isolate at home for 14 days on arrival in Scotland from 4 am on Thursday morning. This is due to a significant rise in cases of coronavirus being imported into Scotland by people who have been in Greece. Although it is believed prevalence of Covid-19 in Greece currently remains lower than 20 per 100,000 a number of cases of the virus in Scotland have been traced back to Greece.

Travellers arriving in England from Greece do not have to quarantine

Travellers arriving in England from Greece are not yet being told to quarantine for 14 days, the Department for Transport said after the Scottish Government announced the requirement for those arriving in Scotland.

Wales on the other hand...

Holidaymakers returning to Wales from the Greek island of Zante are to be asked to quarantine for 14 days and be offered Covid-19 tests, the Welsh Government has said.

Health and social services minister Vaughan Gething said public officials had identified "multiple separate clusters" linked to the popular holiday island.

Currently there are no quarantine restrictions in place for people returning to the UK from Zante.

The first Tui flight affected will land tonight at Cardiff International Airport and passengers will be given a letter asking them to self-isolate for two weeks.

They will also be offered a coronavirus test within 48 hours of their arrival home and a repeat test eight days after returning.

The Greece decision is ridiculous. At 14 cases per 100,000, their infection rate figures are way below the government trigger point of 20, and in the last 7 days infections have actually gone down.

It is solely the island of Zante that is causing concern yet the talk from Vaughn Gething is to follow Scotland and put quarantine in place for all of Greece. Totally over the top, kneejerk reaction, and certainly not 'following the science' as thay always claim to do.

In fairness, Spain was in exactly the same position before it was quarantined, the islands were completely free of the virus, but Spain was quarantined as a whole because there was a cluster in and around Barcelona.

I think the government takes the view that due to the movement of people in the same country, it's only a matter of time to shut down before it spreads?

Just because it's been done before, ie, for Spain, doesn't mean it is the correct decision.

If the current outbreak was on the Greek mainland i could understand the thinking, but it's all down to a rise in infections on 1 island.

The irony of it all is that it's probably the Brits that took the virus there in the first place.

Greece has had consistently low infectiin rates since March, and have only seen an increase since allowing tourists in, but their rates are still much lower than the UK so in theory you're in a much safer environment whilst staying there.

I’m in Portugal at the moment, having a great time.
All the restaurants are open, serving beautiful fresh food cheaply. Beaches are stunning and life goes on well here although of course the local economy has suffered from the lack of tourists.

The Algarve is as safe as anywhere in the world and I have no issues coming here and enjoying life away from the hype and scaremongering.

Depending on if the quarantine on returning affects you, you can still travel if the flights are running (if Portugal does go back on the list).
My villa is overlooking the 9th fairway and it’s beautiful and fairly quiet of golfers .... perfect.
Good luck.

It's going abroad at moment but it will be something else in future? The more you mess with people's lives the more they will rebel and ignore restrictions ! We are already seeing sparodic protests against lockdown that will grow if continue to restrict people..

Plus its not even the Greeks fault. The cases that came back with the virus caught it off Brits that went over there with the virus. If it wasn't for the fact that they need the money I'm sure the Greek islands would have shut up shop this year.

The Greek people have been a lot more sensible than Brits during this outbreak.

Portugal is to remain on England’s “green list” for quarantine-free travel despite Wales and Scotland re-imposing a travel ban because of its rising Covid-19 infection rate.
