A youngster impressing for Cardiff City

By Glen Williams

One of the more notable aspects of the two games has been Mark Harris, the 21-year-old striker who has signed an extension to stay at City next season.

We have scarcely seen him involved with the first team in recent years, but the number of minutes he has been afforded in the two pre-season games might just be a hint we could see the striker in action far more this season.

With Moore, Glatzel and Paterson all offering a very physical presence, it's been refreshing to see Harris' slick link-up play in and around the box. He's looked a real livewire.

His one-two with Moore for the latter's first goal against Newport was a touch of real class and he carried that through into the Rovers match, where he picked up a number of really good positions in threatening areas and was unafraid to fire a shot at goal.

Manager Neil Harris was quick to single him out for praise for his contribution in the build-up to Glatzel's goal against Rovers, too, rushing to the touchline to applaud the young striker's involvement.

With Danny Ward now gone, that seems the natural void for the Wales youth international to fill this season, if Cardiff want that different sort of striker to come on and influence a game.

With Moore and now Paterson away on international duty this week, we might just see Harris be given his chance in the Carabao Cup clash with Northampton Town this Saturday.
