Merthyr Town still not allowed crowds due to Welsh Govt regulations as other Southern league clubs allowed reduced crowds in England

Monday 31st August 2020

Well the long anticipated fixtures have now been released and while it’s disappointing not to be starting on the opening day of the season, in the unprecedented circumstances that we currently face it's probably the best outcome for everyone concerned.

It’s appreciated that not only our players but our long suffering supporters will be disappointed with this news but (fingers crossed) it will only be a few days later that we’ll be able to play in the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup.

Not ideal preparation but its something that we will have to live with due to COVID-19.

As other Southern League rivals continue their build up to the start of the new campaign with further pre-season friendlies this weekend, we are left in a vacuum as our own preparations are restricted to intensive training sessions due to the guidelines identified by our governing body as the FAW are unable to sanction Tier 2 games at present.

This must be extremely frustrating and disappointing for all of our playing and coaching staff, as they are prevented from building up their match fitness which puts us at a serious disadvantage against all of the other sides in the Southern League, who are now playing twice a week in front of reduced capacity crowds.
