Drums&cheerleaders ??

Fri Aug 28, 2020 2:51 pm

During my visits abroad (mainly turkey) I've had the good fortune to attend a fair few matches (good mrs ;) ) and at nearly every stadium there have been drums and cheer leaders, ramping up the atmosphere to in some cases, fever pitch
During lockdown, and since I have been looking,on youtube mainly,at videos from around the world of football matches, and although they are not everyone's cup of tea,in my personal experiences, they always seem to work abroad,so do you think they should be used at our games?
I have witnessed several games at the home of beşiktaş,in Turkey, Inc a couple of Derby games, and the cheering is always led by a few guys who face the crowd, and drums.I know similar in ways to the cheer leader most clubs have(or used to!)but these guys really seem to tamp up the noise level!! And in morroco they have it too,try and watch the Casablanca derby o youtube, and see the ultras there, plus beşiktaş ( favourites ) setting a record 142 decibels record on youtube,I think we are missing a trick personally, what's your view?? There are enough people who say the atmosphere at CCS is poor, and I'm in that category, so think it could be improved at least 50% at home games,so why not? :old: :bluebird:

Te atmospher is poor because of the design, which apparently is state of the art. On the marching bands, Jock could organise that..

 I knew my headline was wrong with "cheerleaders" should have used the word orchestrators, not to be confused with the American type ;) so no need for marching bands.
As for the atmoshere being poor, the design is ok,as it's been proved with wales, where the atmosphere was superb,I find its because only small sections of the crowd actually join in?
Whereas in other countries I have mentioned the crowd gets whipped up,even before a ball is kicked, then kept up throughout the games
most grounds in Turkey are fairly modern (well in super lig),and the atmosphere in morroco, where it's an open stadium, with no roof,is fantastic, and that's putting it mildly  if there were a league table for atmosphere at games,we would be struggling at the bottom end. :sad7:and I say we as the uk,not city.
In turkey they actively encourage all parts of the stadium to join in,and it reminds me of the old chant down the city,of,bob bank bob bank give us a song, etc etc (all parts asked for a song) but deafingly louder! :old: :bluebird:

In my opinion our drummer hinders the atmosphere more than improves it. It’s always the same 3 songs on repeat and for way too long. Any original chants or anyone trying something different gets drowned out. It’s especially annoying when someone does try to start a chant and the drummer starts up but plays one of the 3 he’s already played for 60mins.

If we had an actually competent drummer or someone organising the chants which the drum then accompanied I think it would be great, as it currently is it’s a wasted opportunity.
Get the Barry Horns in for a few games and see how that takes off :ayatollah:

I’d also like to hear Hey Jude before the games again. It means the crowd is singing as soon as the ball is kicked and helps start an atmosphere, Fatboy Slim and the bloke shouting “support the boys” really doesn’t quite provide the same effect.

This is what I was aluding to, a competent drummer/s is a must,or as you pointed out,it can be a pain in the arse! In morroco, turkey etc, there are guys on platforms organising the chants, and the drummer starts them off (and continues on!) A good video is musalla tasi (besiktas) or wyfdad in casablanca morroco,to illustrate best, what I'm trying to say.
As for the Barry Horns, why not? Can't do any harm surely? :old: :bluebird:

The drum is terrible. Whoever bangs the drum must know they need to stop now.
Thanks for trying but please call it a day
