The slight logo change to “Malaysia Berjaya”, Tan said, is intended to promote the Asian country as well as the Berjaya Group, which he founded.

VINCENT TAN:

"As I said before, I am a patriot and Malaysia will always be my priority and first love ," the Bluebirds owner told reporters in Malaysia.

"I am always open to ideas and cooperation with the Malaysian government to promote my country.”

Chairman Mehmet Dalman revealed earlier this year that City would not have an endless pot of money to spend in the transfer window, owing to coronavirus hitting the leisure and tourism industry, such as Tan's Berjaya Group, particularly hard and has cut the value of his fortune in half.

That, then, may well be the thinking being this amalgam of promoting both Malaysia and the Berjaya brand across the 2020/21 City strip – a bid to boost finances and get the company further etched into the public consciousness on these shores.

Tan went on to reveal that because of the prominence of where the logo is placed on the jersey, he always ensures the promotion of his native Malaysia is front and centre.

"Because of my love for the country, I always keep that exclusive space for Malaysia," he added

"Starting next season, the slogan 'Malaysia Berjaya' will be used. It not only symbolises my patriotic nature but also my sentiments [as the founder of Berjaya]."
