Sky Sports announce new EFL TV and live streaming deal for next season as Cardiff City and Swansea City handed huge boost

Sky Sports and the EFL have agreed a deal to show every home match live at no additional cost

Cardiff City fans will now be able to watch All their Hone and away games at no extra cost on Sky.

Cardiff and the rest of the Championship are not expecting crowds to attend their stadiums till 2021.

By Ian Mitchelmore

Wednesday 26th August 2020

All EFL matches played behind-closed-doors during the 2020/21 season will be available to watch on television or online, it has been announced.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, fans have been unable to attend football matches in the UK since March.

The new EFL campaign gets under way next month, with supporters still unable to watch their teams in action.

As a result, an agreement has been reached - in similar fashion to the one reached for the latter stages of the 2019/20 season - for all EFL games which fans are unable to attend to be screened live in some shape or form.

The Championship streaming criteria is as follows:

Championship clubs are able to stream any match not shown live on Sky to fans who purchase individual match passes for £10.
The new framework for season ticket holders allows clubs to have the option to provide streams of:

All home matches, including those shown live on Sky,
Any midweek away match, including those shown live on Sky.
Clubs cannot provide access to any away weekend match, live on Sky or not, within a season ticket package.

Round one Carabao Cup matches which are not selected for live broadcast by Sky Sports will also be eligible for clubs to stream. These will only be available on a match pass basis at the price of £10.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

I can see many City fans of the 8,000 plus wondering why they bought their season tickets , I bought 2 .
As even if they let us in next year we will be limited on the amount of matches we are allowed to attend.

I’ve just bought one as well Annis. It may be a case of ‘watch this space’ to see what happens re refunds etc.

Annis, I think anyone who has bought a 20/21 season ticket has more or less made a donation to the Club; gonna be interesting if and when when our fans want refunds! :bluescarf:

I’m hoping that at the very least we get a generous discount for the following season, based on how many games we get to this season. Thankfully I could afford to buy for this season but I would hate to think I’ll get nothing back if the season doesn’t allow fans back in at all.

They can’t legally keep it mate. It’ll have to be refunded or put towards the season after as they’ve done this year. I’m happy to pass the cash to next season if it helps club.

I am more than happy with what the club have done for me and my son in these challenging times. I was able to watch home and away games during lockdown plus the credited me 70 quid off this seasons tickets. The price of just over 200 quid for me and my son I was more than willing to pay knowing I would not see all if any home games. I knew we would get a stream service and like any other streaming service like Netflix, amazon you pay....all fans must have known before they passed on money. I am sure thr club will look after the 8000 of us who have committed....not to mention 20 quid each person to use on city cash....well done cardiff city

I am a bit confused here. When it says Cardiff City fans will be able to watch all games home and away on sky do they mean on a device like an I pad or computer rather than watching sky on television through the red button. Obviously like anyone I prefer watching us on a proper tv rather than an I pad.

So home games are available for £10 per game, even the weekend ones. Payable to the club.
Away games in midweek are also available for £10 per game, although many will be live on the Sky Red Button. £10 payable to the club.
The club can offer these games (above) for free as part of the season ticket package if they want.

Away WEEKEND matches are not to be made available to fans. Whether they pay or not.

Is that the simplest way to describe the situation?

I bought my season ticket , fully expecting not to see a game at the stadium till next year.
All the fans who have bought season tickets , are supporters . They are financially supporting the club.
A lot of fans are not in the financial position , especially with furlough's etc. To buy season tickets , so at least they will be able to see the City .
I cant see a problem with Sky showing all the games , I haven't got sky ,but I can stream it because of my season ticket, or go to a pub and watch sky there . So all Cardiff City supporters will be able to see the games .

I cant believe the club wont look after us. It will be the most short sighted decision ever if they don't at least credit every game missed against the cost of the season ticket next year. The goodwill lost not to mention the future revenue lost will far outweigh the cost to the club of refunds.

I renewed my season ticket along with my 2 daughters knowing that we may not get to go see City playing in the stadium at all this season but I was more than happy to renew to help the club I love out financially albeit a little bit, but every little bit helps. I am a supporter of Cardiff City FC and a season ticket holder for over 40 years and if I can help to keep my club afloat then I will and I’ll continue to do so.
At least I’ll be able to watch most of city’s matches if not all, on sky or the app or whatever. I do understand that some fans may not be financially in the position to buy season tickets due to the lockdown etc and I do feel for them so I hope they can watch our beloved club in some capacity.

I think they had to do something like this.

Personally don't see fans returning until 2021.

i dont know mate, one day i think things are getting back to normal and the next day it looks different...
ive posted elsewhere that last Saturday clubs in level 7 and below were allowed small crowds... this Saturday that has been upped to a max of 600 { dependent on ground and what tier they play } .UEFA have also announced they intend to allow 20k into the Puskas arena for the super cup at end of Sept... both these point to some sort of easing..
then you listen to Drakeford and Gethin and............well its just no

I renewed 4 tickets mainly to keep the same seats. But certainly hope to get to a few games. It's a pity they aren't making weekend away games available in the circumstances, as they will be shown to the home team anyway and obviously it won't affect crowds because there aren't any!

Very hard to keep up with the situation regarding fans returning.

Yes I think it’s a case of wait and see as nobody really knows what’s going to happen next.

Anyone know how this will affect the ex pats among us that rely on the club tv games as the sky are not shown when on tv.
