Cardiff City will be boosted by the news Middlesbrough are reportedly looking to re-sign former captain Ben Gibson.

Neil Warnock is looking to bolster his defence for the upcoming campaign and have targeted a new centre-back as a priority in the transfer market.

Reports emerged this weekend that Warnock was in for City fan favourite Sol Bamba and hoped they could prise him away from Cardiff City Stadium for a 'nominal fee'.

However, City fans will hope fresh reports that Warnock wants Gibson back will take his concentration away from Bamba.

The 27-year-old Gibson made the move to Burnley in 2018, but has played just six times since arriving at Turf Moor.

Gibson is said to want to leave the Premier League side, but still has two years left on his contract in Lancashire.

According to the Hartlepool Mail though, Middlesbrough are keen on sorting a return to Teesside, although a loan move would require the Clarets to pay a significant part of the defender’s wages in the Championship.

Middlesbrough are reportedly interested in veteran Cardiff City defender Sol Bamba.

According to reports from Wales, Boro have asked about Sol Bamba's availability as they look to strengthen the defensive position.

Boro are in the market for defenders following the exits of Daniel Ayala, Harold Moukoudi, George Friend and Ryan Shotton. It is understood that manager Neil Warnock is keen on bringing Bamba to the Riverside Stadium.

Warnock has prior history with Bamba, with the pair working together at Cardiff City. Bamba is viewed as an ideal short term signing for Boro ahead of the new season.

Cardiff City are thought to be open to selling the defender who has one year left on his deal.

A source close to the club said Catrdiff are open to offers.

Middlesbrough recently lost out on Northampton Town defender Charlie Goode, with this adding pressure on the club as they look to build a team capable of avoiding the relegation places in the upcoming season.

Boro have also been linked with a loan move for former captain Ben Gibson who is currently out of favour at Burnley.

Samba will be a decent cover for the Riverside outfit, but isn't the long-term solution to the the defensive issues the club are currently facing.
