JAMAL LOWE: PURCHASE FEE NOT MET BY SWANS

Mon Aug 17, 2020 4:43 pm

Wales online reporting the Jacks have made a bid for him. Fast winger who can also play through the middle or as a no. 10. Will be a bargain too as Wigan, unfortunately for them, are having to sell cheap.
Will hate it if the jacks get him. There were reports recently that we were interested along with Celtic.
An excellent investment...come on Neil go and get him.

Jamal Lowe bids rejected - as they would have left Wigan Athletic out of pocket
By Phil Wilkinson

Wigan Athletic have already rejected two bids for Jamal Lowe - because they would have left the club out of pocket.

Swansea City are the latest club to show interest in Lowe, but it seems unlikely they will be able to recruit him on a cut-price deal.

Latics still owe his former club Portsmouth around £750,000 in unpaid transfer fees.

They are relying on player sales at present to reduce their footballing creditors' debt - of £6.5m - and to pay players' wages.

Previous offers for Lowe of around the £500,000 mark have been turned down, as it would require Latics to immediately pay the remaining balance of £250,000.

It is not unusual for clubs to pay transfer fees in installments, but outfits exiting administration need to clear their entire football creditors' debt in full first.

The 26-year-old Lowe, who has two years remaining on his deal, scored six goals in 48 Wigan appearances last season.

Lewis Macleod became the latest player from Wigan's 2019-20 squad to secure his future elsewhere. The 26-year-old, who left the club in the summer after his one-year deal expired, has signed for Plymouth Argyle.

Antonee Robinson travelled to Fulham yesterday for a medical while Keiffer Moore (Cardiff), Joe Gelhardt (Leeds), Alfie Devine (Spurs), Jensen Weir (Brighton) and Daniel Gyollai (Peterborough) have left.

Out-of-contract Leon Balogun (Rangers) and Chey Dunkley (Sheffield Wednesday) have also moved on while manager Paul Cook resigned.

Our wingers have been inconsistent at best this season. Lowe is definitely a player we should be looking at - especially if we can get him on the cheap.

to be fair to the peg sellers, they usually get their transfers spot on, they know what they need and they get it. and when it doesn't work out, more often than not they make a decent profit.

Re: Jamal Lowe

I highly doubt if this is true as he would cost £2M upwards and those stinkers down west havent got £2 in their pockets

Re: Jamal Lowe

Be absolutely gutted if the Jacks sign Jamal Lowe he’s the type of winger we are crying out for. He tore us apart down here last season. Wigan will take whatever they can get for him I would be mega surprised if Harris is not interested in him.

not sure about that mate , they got relegated with 60 odd million pounds worth of players who had not worked out on loan elsewhere... did get lucky with sales last summer though...

There will be teams out there who think that NML is class as he ripped them apart, same with Hoilett, same with Murphy (more so at Norwich).

We aren’t too bad for wingers. 2 million better spent I think.

How do you know it's just them who are interested? There's loads that goes on behind the scenes where transfers are concerned. Just say it if you think he's not a good player. It's what you seem to be suggesting...but not actually saying it.

its just that they have administrators in.. who dont seem to be in any way cagey ,and its their job and in their interests to create interest, bring funds in and reduce the wage bill quickly hence its all been very public for all 6 who have left so far ..as for me not saying what i mean...i have. always do...and dont do any of this grass is greener for players i have seen very little of ..if tomorrow other clubs have stated interest fair enough but at this point it looks like just Swansea have had a bid accepted .

Our wingers were very inconsistent last season. NML is never too far away from an injury and it appears Harris doesnt rate Whyte that much. They still owe pompey 750k for him but if we could pick him up for around a mill it would be a good buy.

Assuming a fee in the region of £1m and I feel Jamal Lowe would be well worth a punt :thumbright: :ayatollah:

I agree. Our wingers were very inconsistent last season. Hoilett getting on now, NML is never too far away from injury, Harris doesnt seem to rate Whyte and we have all seen the issues with Murphy last season. Definitely worth a punt if we could get him for around a mill. Only 26 as well so potential sell on value there.

I would love to see him here but think either Hoilett or NML would have to be leaving to facilitate this as White is probably on buttons compared to those two.

Hoilett was a free agent. Bamba was a free agent and slated by Leeds fans. Yet both were vital players in our promotion season. We wouldnt have got them on a free if they were 'consistent' players. If we only signed consistent players then we would be paying massive transfer fees every time as clubs don't sell their better players on the cheap.

i dont follow the reasoning behind wouldnt have got them free.. Rambo moved for free as did Joe Ledley here , its no reflection on their usefulness or ability .. it was in both cases the players choice.. QPR did not want to lose Hoilett because they tried to extend his contract..

Yes players going on frees can choose not to stay at club .! And others are not being of further use to club in the players position so contract is not renewed... generally most of these players are useful to other clubs due to the position they play.. got nothing to do with ability thats for sure

Totally agree.

The elite wingers perform a lot more consistently. Those elite wingers aren’t championship players.

Lowe is no better than what we have. In my opinion. When funds are limited I think it’s a little bit of a luxury to buy him.

I have liked Whyte every time I have seen him play.

Harris doesnt seem keen on Whyte mate.. and quite possibly a year ago for 1 mill we would be taking a punt , have we got that sort of money this year ? has anyone ? i do not know... if he came great but if he dont im more than happy with what we have, apart from needing a RB.. if we have a mill thats where i would like it spent..

Just a thought, does anyone think we could sign a winger to replace Junior Hoilett and move the later into a more central No 10 role? It’s been well advertised we’re over reliant on Tomlin and this would provide him a welcome rest when required over a long and physically demanding Championship season. This would also afford Joe Ralls extra minutes in central midfield, with the option of moving him forward if required.

Think we would need to move a winger out, before we fetch another winger in.
White seems a million miles away from the first team based on last seasons games under NH.
Perhaps an opportunity for him to go out on loan?

If Jamal Lowe is any good, go for it. Agree with a loan for Whyte, maybe try Coventry or Wycombe who are in the Championship now and he would be playing at the level we need him at to progress.

I've thought for some time that Hoilett could be an effective no. 10. He keeps the ball well, can twist and turn while holding onto the ball and looking for runners. He can also run at people in centre field, and opponents hate that as it creates panic. Basically, he's a tricky little player who could link with other midfielders and with our wingers and centre forward.
