Neil Harris Warns it’s loans & Free transfers and

NEIL HARRIS:

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris has warned he will have to work with a modest transfer budget this summer.

The Bluebirds signed Wales striker Kieffer Moore from Wigan today, but the financial impact of coronavirus means Cardiff's other business might be limited to loans and free transfers.

Moore has cost Cardiff just over £1.5mill and that looks like the only money being spent before the new season starts.

Meanwhile, out-of-contract forward Danny Ward is set to join Huddersfield.

"I know full well I've not got a transfer pot to spend in abundance," Harris told BBC Sport Wales.

"We've got a very healthy squad and I'm very happy with our squad - we've got some talent in there.

"As a manager, you always want a little more strength in depth but I understand the situation we're in with Covid-19 and the state of football. We have to be sensible.

"Being able to bring Kieffer in was very sensible business. I didn't expect to have any money to spend at all so I'm really thankful for that."

“I will be bringing in loans and free transfers and also moving players out.”

On Ward's expected move to Huddersfield, Harris said: "I think he will [leave]. Me and him have a fantastic relationship.

"He's been very loyal to me after lockdown where he could easily have made a decision - as others lads in the game have - to not play, but he stayed and worked great for us, and personally as well by scoring a couple of goals.

"Danny is a northern lad. He's got a young, beautiful family and sometimes location and contract status dictates what you do in football.

"If Danny is to leave us it'll be sad for me because I enjoy working with him, but also I fully understand that sometimes you have to move on and do what's best for you family-wise."

Neil Harris: "I'm delighted to finally get him here. It is no secret that we tracked him in January but it wasn't possible at the time.

“Obviously he came here and scored two goals a few weeks later.”

Isaac Vassell "will be out injured for the rest of the season".

Have a lot of sympathy for the player but what a gamble that backfired spectacularly by signing somebody with an injury record like his.

Looks like unfortunately his career will be constantly blighted by injury.

Great shame for him and the club stuck with the remainder of his contract.

Vassel will miss all of next season!!?

Understandable given the current climate, most teams will be penny pinching next season.
On the plus side hopefully some younger players will get the chance to prove themselves.

Completely understandable  ,although angry man above doesn't seem to agree  the prize money will be a lot less this season, the fact cup winners will get 1.7m roughly half of the money for last year! So imagine as you say,a lot of purse strings will be considerably tighter, and if people expect tan to blow millions and millions,in the hope of being promoted, they are going to be dissapointed.
Let's hope a few youngsters are give some games, although Mr negative, says the two who have just extended their contracts, are shit, and will be loaned out to lower league teams, who are also shit! I'm beginning to wonder is the wolf man, Ronnie o'sullivan incognito :laughing5: :old: :bluebird:

I was starting to think Bluewolf was our good friend but can see now it couldn't be, as Roathie can get out more than two sentences :D

Negative wally.

I’m guessing Harris is hoping for a decent fee from selling Etheridge to give himself some additional funds along with using the loan and free market.

Could be plenty of decent players available on loan and frees in the current climate.

I was looking at him, but roathie would never slag off the jacks like bluewolf has. Unless it's his twisted way to try and fool us all :laughing5: :laughing5: :laughing5:

There should be a number of good loans available from the better premier league clubs but we don't seem to get them. Sanderson was one last season and that east European from Liverpool a couple of seasons back. But you would hope for better than 32 year olds from Nottingham Forest and full backs that can't get into Bournrmouths team. I think Harris will be better on the transfer market than Warnock who was completely wasteful towards the end.

I think most teams in the championship will have to make do with what they have got as without crowds there will be very little money floating about.

I have no problem with loans and frees. Some of our best signings in recent years have been loans and frees - Camarasa, Bamba, Hoilett, Mendez-Laing, Etheridge. Loans are not ideal but in the current climate we have to make do with the limited options we have :bluebird:

Free players as they say are free. So it is a risk worth taking.
We seem to have done better getting in free transfers than actually paying out for players.

At least you don't lose money on their resale value. ;)

Agree and i think it will be the same for most clubs outside the Premier League .

Not the serial one, Jules but he is a returner; and I think you're being overly kind with the term 'wally' ;) :laughing6:

No issues with loans and free transfers, so long as they (a) improve the squad, and (b) are committed to the cause

Dion Sanderson would be a great start in both those directions... :ayatollah:
