Bristol City hand son of former Cardiff City, Leicester City, Peterborough United and Cheltenham Town winger first pro contract

Academy product graduates to senior set-up

Joe Low, the son of former Cheltenham Town winger Josh, has signed his first professional contract with Championship club Bristol City.

Unlike his dad, who was a graceful winger, Low Jr operates at centre-half and he has been called up by Wales Under-18s.

Low has been on the books of City since Under-seven level and has spent time on loan at Dorchester Town to build his senior first team experience.

Josh, who represented Wales at Under-21 level, started his career at Bristol Rovers.

He went on to enjoy a long career with the likes of Leyton Orient, Cardiff City, Oldham Athletic, Northampton Town, Leicester City and Peterborough United.

He joined Cheltenham - then in League One - in the summer of 2008 and spent four years at Whaddon Road before starting a career in law and playing part-time for Bath City, hanging up his boots in 2014.

The complete list of youth team players to step up to the Under-23s at Ashton Gate is as follows: Samuel Bell, William Buse, Tommy Conway, Joseph Low, Joshua Owers (son of ex-Forest Green boss Gary), Samuel Pearson, Callum Pearson, Harvey Wiles-Richards, Barnaby Soady, James Taylor, Ryley Towler.
