Wales and Chelsea ace Ethan Ampadu is said to be wanted on loan by Norwich City following a frustrating loan spell in the Bundesliga.

The Press Association news agency reports the Canaries are in talks to sign the 19-year-old Chelsea midfielder.

Chelsea are reported to be ready to give the green light for the highly-rated youngster to head to Norwich, who have been relegated to the Championship, in a bid to secure more game time following a frustrating loan deal to RB Leipzig.

Capped 13 times for Wales, Ampadu joined Frank Lampard's Chelsea from Exeter in 2017 but is yet to make a Premier League breakthrough for the London club, but Lampard has stressed from day one as manager the importance of giving youth a chance on his watch.

With Norwich reshaping their squad following a drop to English football's second tier, any promise of regular game time would prove beneficial in the next crucial stage of Ampadu's development as he looks to cement himself as a starter.

Of course, regular game time would also prove valuable to Wales boss Ryan Giggs ahead of 2021's Euro finals.

It was hoped the move to the German outfit would provide the opportunity to gain more experience in first-team football and showcase his tremendous ability which Wales' fans are well aware of, but he has in fact made just two starts and seven appearances in total - amassing less than 300 minutes - during his spell there since last summer.

He did excel when thrown in the 1-0 win against Tottenham in the Champions League in February, but opportunities have been limited while he has also been battling with a back problem.

Leipzig said in June that he was "slowly reintroduced to training", with the midfielder previously addressing the frustration at a lack of game time.

"There’s been a lot of frustration at times; however, I’ve learned a lot through those frustrations which will only help me later in my career," Ampadu previously told The Athletic.

"I’ve not played as many games as I’d have liked to but in the games I’ve played in, I think I’ve done reasonably well. That’ll give me confidence, but I’ve things to learn from.

"If I’m honest, it’s not been as good as I hoped, not all that I wanted it to be. But I hope technically I’ve improved and, tactically, I’ve now played under another manager.

"So I’ve learned another style of football and how another manager thinks football should be played."

Definitely like to see him here

He was outstanding against Spurs as a central defender. Would have thought he could do better than Norwich by going on loan to a lesser Premier League club such as Villa or Fulham. As he can play at the back or in midfield he would get plenty of game time.

i agree but truth be told he is more likely to end up down the road.. Cooper had 2 Chelsea players on loan last season so obviously has a good relationship with them.. Lampard himself went there on loan .. and his father was a player there for quite some time.. ?

Fulham circling too apparently

Bring him to Cardiff please Harris. We need another welshman and with his potential he can help us throughout the season with cup matches and just to be there when we need him.

Spurs were so unambitious going forward in that game his defensive qualities really not seen. Quality player but not sure that game gives any insight.

They shouldn’t be loaning him out to champ sides but if they do then we should definetly be doing everything in our power to get him here.
