Eddie newton,remember him?

Postby bluesince62 » Sun Aug 09, 2020 11:02 pm

Eddie newton, was recently named 1st team coach/manager at trabzonspor in Turkey, he took over for two games, including the turkish cup final (which they won).not the easiest league to be a manager in tbh,but a good move for him in my opinion, the only shame is,although they finished as runners up in the league, they have recieved a 1 year ban in eurooe (ffp I think) thus excluding them from the champions league this coming season :sad7:
tbh,not sure what happened to original manager, but he had guided them to 2nd place and cup final, but it doesn't take much in Turkey, for a manager to be gone suddenly, same with players :? But as a honorary black eagle (besiktas) I have been to a few games in Turkey, and wow! The fans are something else, besiktas being the best of them,of course  have a look on youtube guys,it's mental!! Check out mursalla tarsi (besiktas fans chanting to each section, back and forth!) Makes games here look so sterile, and atmosphere less  :old: :bluebird:

Yes I remember him well. Came on loan from Chelsea, big mate with Nathan Blake. I remember him being carried off shoulder high after his last game for us (I think).I can’t remember the what game Though. Was part of the coaching set up at Chelsea later on???

He was a brilliant player for us. Newton was a premier league standard player and we were lucky thane him on loan. I wish we could have kept him. He seemed to play a bit for the Chelsea team later on I seem to remember. Good luck to him in Istanbul.

This was his last game (I think memory might be failing me)

3-1 win over Barnet. 1991/1992

Newton scored the last goal. The Barnet goal was a rocket.

The season we would have got into the playoffs if Aldershot didn't go bust. Made amends for it next season though.

He is manager of trabzonspor, which is closer to Georgia than Istanbul mate  was also on the coaching staff at Chelsea too.wish him well in his new position (he will need to hit the ground running tho,a very fickle league to be a manager in!).
If I remember,he was only around 18 or so when he played for us,great attitude, and certainly was a fan favourite in his spell with us  good luck to him, except the 2 games v besiktas. :old: :bluebird:

By all accounts hes a nice guy to

I will look at the kit with my boy tomorow and decide if that's the Turkish team I follow
