HARRIS: " THREE TO FOUR NEW PLAYERS "

‘I want more’ – Neil Harris delivers Cardiff City message

By Dean Cooke

03/08/2020

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris is determined for his side to push on despite a valiant effort in their play-off semi-final defeat to Fulham.

Harris said: “Their mums, dads, brothers, sisters, wives and girlfriends and children should all be so proud of them.

“But I told them I want more.”

"I have asked the board for a budget for next season, I need to move on 5 or so players and will then be able to bring in 3-4 new players."

"Four new players in the right positions, there's no reason why we cant go for it again next season."

The Verdict

It’ll be really interesting to see how Cardiff get on next season and whether the play-off defeat will have any sort of impact on them or any of the players.

They have a good core and a lot of hard-working players, and if you were to mix that with a few more signings then there’s no reason why they wouldn’t be one of the favourites to go up to the Premier League next season.

Harris clearly wants his players to buy into what he’s saying and to keep improving, but it takes time, although saying that, Harris has already done a good job given how long he has been manager for.

Yep that's the sort of signing that will see us over the line.

Cunnningham
Flint
Pack
Murphy

I don't see how the play off defeat will have a bad effect on the players. They came from 14th to 5th with a late surge that surprised everybody. So when the new season starts they will still be confident and ready to continue in the same way. Only having a 6 week break could be a massive advantage.

6-7 out;

Etheridge
Flint
Pack
Hoilett
Bamba (retire)
Vassell (released)
Paterson

I would keep Cunningham (never been given a chance) and Murphy (get him consistent)

Strikers, Moore and Gayle! Keeper Charlton one on a free? Centre back Cooper from Millwall, midfielder Bannan Sheff Wed and RB Cash from Forest and Williams from Liverpool. It won’t happen but that would send out a statement ha ha

Not sure about Murphy,,,, it wouldn’t surprise me though. I can also see Vassell parting company,,, Even if not Until the end of this year.

Sanderson and Moore are two of them by the looks.

Don't think Murphy will be sold. He has 2 years left with us as he signed a 4 year contract.

RM
CF (Number 10)

Is he available and could we afford him?

Yes and No

If we don't count Sanderson we still need another RB,maybe a LB too as I'm not sure Bennett is the Gaffer cup of tea.A No 10 type to compliment and share the workload with Tomlin.Another DM which bring our M/F compliment to seven.Another striker and a wideman.

If we are serious about promotion I think those 4 players need to be going straight into the starting 11. We definitely need a RB and I think we need a striker, CM and a winger. Given the financial situation all clubs are in it will be interesting to see which players he plans to move on (if possible) and how much backing he'll receive to bring people in.

I can see Etheridge/Smithies or Bennet/Cunningham leaving. All 4 are very good championship players so it is a bit of a luxury to have 2 of them regularly sat on the bench. shipping two out could bring in some cash or at least save on wages if they are loaned out. If Moore is brought in, as reported, I am not sure where that leaves Paterson. So wouldn't be surprised to see him go. Our wingers have been very inconsistent this season so it wouldn't be a disaster to see any of them leave, as long as a replacement is brought in.

I would personally like to see Pack and Flint replaced as they are both too slow and I feel we play better without them in the team. I would imagine they are both on decent wages so not sure who would be willing to take them off us though.

According to transfermarket there’s a few decent (realistic) free agents available, particularly midfielders... Questionable if they’d improve the squad enough for a real promotion push though.

I would like to see a quality new right back, a more solid defensive midfielder and Heidar Helguson type centre forward.
I am quite satisfied with most of the squad to be honest.
I'd probably move out Etheridge (if he wants to go); Pack and Bamba (retire)
After all, since Harris came to the club, we played top six football.

Think Patto will go as he doesn't really fit in to our new found footballing style, straight swap for 'boro striker with the name I never rember :old:

I wonder if Patto could revert to his old job as a right-back seeing as we need at least one. Apparently he isn't good at that position (Gospel according to St. Warnock) but he has done the job for both Hearts and Scotland. Worth a punt?

Put that on another thread Tony, just doesn't make sense as my mate up with the Jambo was livid when Patto came to us and reckons he was a class fullback.

Managers eh :D

Good post, in complete agreement, we need 4 quality players to go straight into team rather than Warnock’s approach of signing lots of players then not playing them! Two quality needed in every position then our Academy players to provide cover in case of injuries/ suspensions! Flint and Pack May take some shifting unless we can do a swoop deal with Middlesborough for their Striker?

You say you are in complete agreement, yet state we need two quality players in each position? With etheridge and Smithies we have two of,if f not the best pair in the championship (if they both stay) and the post you are in complete agreement with, states "all four are very good championship players" so why would we sell them? As that's where we will be playing this year. Not having a go by the way,but had to ask. :old: :bluebird:

2 quality needed in every position unless your name is Warnock who signed too many...
