Derby County to rival Cardiff for Moore

Derby County are one of a number of Championship clubs to have reportedly 'held talks' with Wigan Athletic striker Kieffer Moore and his representatives.

Queens Park Rangers, Cardiff City, Stoke City, Preston North End, Middlesbrough and Millwall are also reported to be interested in the 27-year-old Welsh international.

The report from the Northern ECHO claims that Moore, who has two years to run on his contract at Wigan, is valued at £2m.

Cardiff City feel Kieffer Moore's goal threat can help them push for promotion

Cardiff City feel they can win the race for Wales striker Kieffer Moore who has become Bluebirds manager Neil Harris' number one target in the transfer window.

A host of Cardiff's Championship rivals want to sign the 27-year-old front-man whose career has blossomed since shining for Ryan Giggs' Wales.

Stoke City, Middlesbrough, Derby, Preston, QPR and Millwall are other clubs ready to make a move for Moore, who bagged 10 goals and also had a number of assists despite Wigan's relegation to League One.

But it seems Moore has set his sights on moving to Cardiff City Stadium, which has become like a second home to him after some excellent displays at international level next to the likes of Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.

Moore knows a move to Cardiff, where he will be under the spotlight of Welsh fans and the Welsh media, will enhance his prospects of continuing to play for Wales and shining under Giggs at next summer's Euros.

Harris is keen to build his team around Moore, feeling the bustling 6ft 5in centre-forward can become the focal point of the side and provide the goal threat that has often been missing this season.

Moore and Robert Glatzel offer credible options for a Bluebirds team keen to push for automatic promotion next season, although where that would leave the futures of Danny Ward and Callum Paterson remains to be seen.

It seems Harris can get his man for around £2.5m, with Wigan desperate for money. Millwall have supposedly had a similar bid for Moore accepted by the Latics hierarchy.

However, Moore has kept his options open and is said to prefer a move to the Welsh capital.

Moore earned a £3million move to Wigan last summer after bagging 21 goals in 51 games for Barnsley.

His career prior to that was somewhat low key, often in non-league, but he has begun to flourish at the highest level.

With Wales, Moore has proven a more than able target man, who can win headers, hold up the ball, link play and also score goals.

Harris feels those are qualities Moore can bring to his Cardiff team, giving the Bluebirds the option of combining a direct game with a more easy on the eye passing style.

Moore scored key Euro 2020 qualifying goals for Wales against Slovakia and Azebarbaijan and his introduction to the team coincided with a dramatic change in fortunes for Giggs' side.

They had previously struggled without a recognised centre-forward in defeats to Hungary and Croatia. Giggs then discovered Welsh ancestry for a player who comes from Torquay and Wales suddenly went on a run of six games without defeat.

Harris is keen to bring in key players who he feels can turn the Bluebirds into a promotion force next season.

As well as Moore, the Cardiff chief has targeted a right-back and midfielder, while he will also look at winger and centre-back options.

This reminds me of when we were 100% nailed on to sign Grabban the whole summer window a few years back.
Would be a decent signing if it comes off

I agree KM seems to be a perfect fit for us, providing we do sign him.

Kieffer Moore is not everyone’s idea of a top striker but has looked very good every time I have seen him

Always plays well for Wales and for some reason I watched the whole Leeds v Wigan game on iptv before Lockdown and he was a real handful that game and was MOM by a mile

Perfect fit for us whether as a starter or a plan B

What does "edge ahead" mean?

Reality is he will go to the highest bidder if his club receive more than one offer as long as that club also offers him the highest wafe. Or to whichever club makes a strong move first. Edge ahead, really?

For under 3m seems a gamble worth taking.

He knows where the net is, is proven at this level and is Welsh. I'd take him.

Now to find someone who can cross...

Cardiff lead Moore chase

Cardiff City are leading the chase for Barnsley striker Kieffer Moore after making the forward their number one target.

The 27-year-old has caught the eye following his performances with Barnsley and the Welsh national side, with Stoke City, Middlesbrough, Derby County, Preston, QPR and Millwall all attributed with an interest.

However, it’s now stated Moore has identified Cardiff as the move he wants to make as it will boost his chances of playing for Wales in next summer’s European Championships.

Very much doubt he will sign for us if WBA want him. Having been promoted they can afford to pay more in transfer fees and wages. Must be some doubt to the story though is he really a premier league striker.

Can he really be considered to be Welsh though. He was born and brought up in Torquay and only had one Welsh grandparent. He is mostly a wurzel.Would still like to sign him. Maybe WBA are taking him off us in revenge for selling Zohore to them.
