" Neil Warnock "

Neil Warnock will stay on as manager of Championship club Middlesbrough next season.

Warnock, who replaced Jonathan Woodgate as boss on 23 June, guided Boro to 17th having battled against relegation for much of the season.

It was uncertain whether the 71-year-old would remain in charge for the 2020-21 campaign and had taken some time away to decide on his future.

Assistants Kevin Blackwell and Ronnie Jepson will also be staying on.

The pair were brought in when Warnock was first appointed, with Boro 21st in the table at the time.

They went on to win four of their eight remaining games, although he was unable to oversee a first victory at the Riverside Stadium since Boxing Day.

NEIL WARNOCK

Neil Warnock To Continue As Boro Boss

Tue 28 Jul 2020

Neil Warnock is to stay on as Boro manager and will lead the club in the 2020/21 season.

The record-breaking promotion winner was piloted into the position in June with his brief being to keep the club in the Sky Bet Championship after a campaign spent battling against relegation.

With four wins from his eight games at the helm, relegation was avoided on the final day of the season when Boro beat Sheffield Wednesday.

Warnock had made no secret of his desire to work for Steve Gibson and Middlesbrough, and was adamant that talks would only take place about the future once the club’s Championship status was secured.

During his short time with the club, and before his future was decided, he has already held discussions with the club’s recruitment team and offered advice for future planning.

He was joined by trusted lieutenants Kevin Blackwell and Ronnie Jepson, and the duo will also form part of the new management team for next season.

Boro became the 17th stopping point for Warnock, who first cut his managerial teeth at Gainsborough Trinity back in 1980, when he arrived last month after the decision was taken to relieve Jonathan Woodgate of the position of head coach.

The veteran manager already has a record a record eight promotion successes as a manager and will be targeting another on Teesside.

The first of those eight promotions came in 1987 when he guided Scarborough into the Football League. Two more followed at Notts County when he guided them from the third tier to the top division in successive seasons and he also enjoyed success at Huddersfield Town and Plymouth Argyle.

He enjoyed an eight-year stint at his boyhood club Sheffield United that culminated in him leading the Blades back to the Premier League in 2006, where they stayed for one season before Warnock resigned after they were controversially relegated.

His next job saw him save Crystal Palace from relegation to the third tier, but he was soon back on the promotion trail, leading Queens Park Rangers to the Premier League.

His most recent success came at Cardiff City where he led the Bluebirds to the Premier League in 2018.

Warnock was hugely proud of his achievements in South Wales and has spoken of the similarities between the situation he inherited at Cardiff and the position Boro were in following his arrival.

Warnock, who has managed over 1,500 games including Play-Off matches, brings experience and know-how, and an energy that belies his 71 years.

If it is, he’ll need a few bob.
Think he may go for Ward possibly too.

He can take the majority of the shite she signed in the summer if he wants.
The commander Aden Flint
The organiser Marlon Pack
The electric Gavin Whyte
The physical speedster Robert Glatzel
Or our workhorse and ever present Isaac Vassell

Oh but he wont want Will Vaulks will he because of that 1 bad game he had when he spent 2m on him and effectively seemed to banish him after 4 weeks of signing him.

Etheridge is a possibility, he also likes Mozza, Bennett, Bacuna, Ralls and Hollett, he may test the water with some bids?

Its actually quite rare that he goes back for old players unless they are free.

I would also bet Middlesbrough for a play off place at least next season .

They would be £20mill plus combined to buy off us . Boro have no parachute payments anymore and are low on funds like everyone else after the virus. They will be looking in the bargain basement like everyone else

Yup only Hoilett out of that group I can see as a possibility and I’d imagine he’s on pretty good wages here.

Yes of course, he wouldn't try and sign them all, he gets on with Harris and knows he may need to sell to buy, so he may sound him out on some.

Ralls and Bennett to go I hope.. they only perform a basic function as footballers, with little or no contribution. Don’t think Flint or Pack have a future here, but finances may dictate otherwise.

He’ll have seen how garbage some of his signings have been and leave well alone but think he might tempt Danny Ward.

Bennett is one of the best three left backs in the league

Ralls is a solid championship player who very rarely puts a foot wrong and is dependable

Both valued at over £3mill

i feel for bennett, its hard to look good when you have hoilett infront of you, he wanders off into the middle of the pitch to much, leaving us with no real width, and no protection at left back.

Think hoilett covers a lot of ground defending as well best out of Murphy and Mendez, he’s like the 3rd highest in the division for most tackles by a winger
