Neil Harris:Their second goal was great / but was it a foul

Tue Jul 28, 2020 5:39 am

Cardiff City manager Neil Harris:

"It's a real kick in the nuts. In the first 25 minutes we were very good but we have to take our chances when we're on top.

"In the second half we never really got going. We didn't build any sustained pressure and we made three changes to get some impetus, but by then we were 1-0 down.

"With the first goal you are thinking it's goal of the season if you're the Fulham lad, but I think it's too easy. I'd like to see us lay a glove on him.

"The second goal is a great free-kick but is it a foul? The referee has given me a response I can't believe. In the first half Hector fouled Tomlin but he didn't give a free-kick. He said he ran into him. I asked him did Cairney run into Sean Morrison? He said 'two wrongs don't make a right' so he's admitted he's wrong both times."

Officiating in this league seriously needs improving https://t.co/7IMyhxFzyw

Watch the clip. Harris has a very good point. And if the ref did say that he needs sacking.

I agree with Brentford boss, there has to be VAR in these playoffs Which personally I would scrap anyway !!!! But to make that statement, he should be back down to League 1 for a season.

But it goes to show the standard of English refereeing when none were selected for next major tournament.

Need to learn to read !! Nobody hasn’t said it was a good goal !! The point raised was it shouldn’t never have been a free kick ! Cairney ran into Morrison looking for the contact ! The referee ignored 2 similar collisions earlier in the game ....

Sadly it was a free kick, not one I agree with but one that is fairly consistently given these days. Defenders have nowhere to go and can’t really stand their ground anymore.

Theres lots of things that nowadays are not fouls or are fouls but refs follow like sheep and make decisions based on what other refs do.... only consistent foul is when player puts a finger on opposition and they fall over always a foul by every ref! :o
Watched man u / benfica last night the ref was brilliant but those days long gone of playing the game not to the fans :old:

If the referee has really said that to Harris, then it's a disgrace and he should be suitably punished by the EFL.

I agree with the points Harris is making here and I thought the referee was very poor tonight.

But it has to be said, the better team on the night won.

I expect he's protecting his players but privately, he will have had some stern words with some of the team.

Think what he is saying is
..... just because I didn't give your free kick doesn't mean that theirs wasnt even if looked same? what he said is open to interpretation I guess

it was a massive decision to make right at the end of a semi final and personally i think if youve left a couple of those go you also have to leave this one go too...

stern words do not make players better.. thought we gave it a go , should have capitalised while on top { they were always going to have good periods } and tbh were in with a decent shout at 0-1 going into the 2nd leg.. that decision has turned a very big ask into almost impossible one and none of our players made that decision the ref did.. be easier to take had he been giving those all night, but he hadnt..

Fulham fully deserved their 2-0 win but that was a shocking decision by the referee. He ran into Morrison, whether deliberately or not I don't know, but how the referee could see it as a foul beggars belief. Too many referees fall for the myth that Fulham are just a good footballing side. They are masters of the dark arts of football, winning dubious freekicks in dangerous places and giving away little fouls around the half way line (where you are less likely to be booked) to snuff out the danger early on. Being doing it for last three years.

Man c... liverpool and all the top sides do it and it's an open secret it's to prevent a breakaway and lessens risk of booking at same time

Man City are perhaps the best footballing side I have seen at Cardiff and I go back a while, but they are the masters of it. Trouble is when sides like us do it the ref has his yellow card out straight away.

No doubt about that premier league is slanted in favour of big clubs that's for sure....
