Surely this is a good thing for the Balearic Islands?
If the islands are clean of the virus why would they want boozed up Brits from a heavily infected country (according to some) all over their islands?

I´ve said it before, this virus isnt going away and we could lockdown now for another 3 months and get the figures down to single numbers again and then open up and go through it all again until numbers rise and we lockdown again

from GOV

From 27 July, the FCO advise against all non-essential travel to Spain, including the Balearic and Canary Islands, based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks in the country.

This advice is based on evidence of increases in cases of COVID-19 in several regions, but particularly in Aragon, Navarra and Catalonia (which include the cities of Zaragoza, Pamplona and Barcelona).

The FCO is not advising those already travelling in Spain to leave at this time. Travellers should follow the advice of the local authorities on how best to protect themselves and others, including any measures that they bring in to control the virus.

If you are returning from Spain you will be required to self-isolate on your return to the UK, but the FCO is not advising you to cut short your visit. You should contact your tour operator or airline if you have any questions about your return journey.

I suppose last time they were criticised for allowing imported cases from Spain and Italy into the UK and closing the doors too late, now they are being criticised for taking prompt action trying to prevent the same thing happening again, damned if you do, damned if you don't?

Prompt action  leaving thousands now with 14 days quarantine and yet no advance notice, well done Boris the clown.

For two months they allowed 15,000 unchecked people flying in to Uk.

I could write a book about how bad and slow the UK Govt was during the lockdown

Sadly I honestly believe Uk will rise massively again and the same with many many other countries, you watch.

I will say it again this Virus is not going to go away, we need to carry on with our lives and live them sensible, but not stop doing things etc.

I Think the government has acted in the UK's best interests. There is so much going on that us ordinary people are not aware of.For instance Spains leading highly respected Daily News Paper El. Pais. reported the following on Sunday 26th of July." THE EUROPEAN CENTRE OF DESEASE PREVENTION AND CONTROL ECDC. Spain recorded 39.9 cases per 100.000 inhabitants over the last two weeks. The UK and France for the same period reported 14.6 per 100.000." There are many quotes from regional and provincial local governmounts throughout mainland spain asking their citizens to stay at home.Even the least affected areas are reporting figures of between 10 and 50 cases per 100.000.Also on Sunday El Pais reported that the true toll could be 60% at 44868 much higher than the health ministrys figures leaving spain secound only to the UK."However in terms of deaths per capita it would be by far the highest in Europe. You can read the whole report on BBC news on Line "Spain races to save tourism as cases surge." There are graphs of 8 main holiday distinations and much more that highlight alarming stats. Being that these figures have been reported by such a respected national News agency I would imagine they are accurate or the BBC would not cover them.Personally after reading the report I believe the Govermnment has acted in our best interests. After all they need the revenue from the travel Industry as much as anybody.

But annis better bankrupt than dead. I don't understand the big problem, you either want people to be skint or the virus to spread there. You cant have both?

I will say this, Mallorca is 100% safer than Bournemouth and many many other Uk resorts a fact.

I believe this virus is here for years and we all have to learn to live with and not go in to hiding.

This virus is not going away. We will indeed have to live with it.

currently in costa Adeje (Tenerife) the residents/business owners are apoplectic with rage and totally dumbfounded given the startlingly low number of infections here.
