English holidaymakers arriving back from Spain will have to quarantine for 14 days - after the government reportedly added it to the list of at-risk countries with just a few hours' notice.
The PA news agency is reporting the change, with a formal announcement expected to be made by the Department for Transport later.
It means people arriving back from Spain from midnight - and those who have booked a summer holiday there - face the prospect of two weeks in isolation upon returning.
The Scottish government lifted its quarantine rules on Spain this week - but says it will now reimpose them.
Spain was one of more than 70 countries and territories included in the first wave of England's travel corridors earlier this month - meaning people could travel without needing to quarantine afterwards.

Mainland Spain has been hiding the true numbers since may. They seem to be putting the economy an finance before the health of the residents and visitors.
Are they still on 28000 deaths which has not moved since end of may even though cases are spiking with over 2000 new cases again yesterday.
At the moment we seem to have it under control ,The quarantine is the right decision, they would do the same to us.

Funny story is it’s safer in the Balearic Islands than any part of the UK.
No one in hospital here, No deaths fit over 15 days.
Parts of mainland Spain bad, but so is Leicester, Blackburn etc etc

Thomas,
Some facts it’s actually not deaths that are rising in Main land Spain, it’s the amount with the virus that’s risen like parts of the Uk.
I personally believe England should be quarantined when they come here.

The thing is Annis the form you have to fill in on your return only allows you to enter “Spain” not the actual place you’ve been.
We came back from gran canaria where it’s safer than the uk but you could only enter Spain on the Uk boderforce form

Your right that’s the sad part about it all.
I feel 100% more safer here than in the UK .
The Islands are way safer.
Just listened on the Sky News, that those that quarantine when they return, will return to say their family home a student example but those that live with say that student will be able to continue their life as normal, total madness .

From 26 July, the FCO advises against all non-essential travel to mainland Spain based on the current assessment of COVID-19 risks.
Only the Canary Islands (Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro and La Graciosa) and Balearic Islands (Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza, and Formentera) are exempt from the FCO advice against all non-essential international travel.

The UK are not the only Country to put quarantine from people arriving from Spain (whole of Spain)
The UK should be doing this to mainland Spain only.
France have said from Lleida, Huesca & Cataluña
These countries want to also bring it in to parts of Spain.
Belgium want to bring it in
Portugal want to bring it in
The Balearic government have asked central government for tests to be done in Country/Province of origin (if high risk) to do the test before leaving and to be clear before arriving here. (To be honest that should of happened from beginning)
The Balearic Govt also this week asked if they could stop flights from Barcelona coming here.

It’s such a strange position. Spain went with such a hard and strict lockdown from what I’ve seen and seemed to lead by example at the time but still suffered badly. The problem is if the spainish believed that it was so bad and a strict lockdown was the only way why did they relax it as it was still there nothing had changed since the beginning. No vaccine. So the stance for my contradicts itself.
Or maybe this is what’s going to happen every where as they a few weeks ahead.

Regarding Spain's death toll , is it the fact there are no deaths or are they just not reporting them the same way they were before ?
I just find it hard to believe they have so little deaths since the end of May. The cases are obviously still pretty high like the UK but somehow have managed to convince people it's safe when it is looking the opposite. The islands seem a different story but they need protecting aswell.
Europe as a whole needs a joint effort with everybody using the same rules to get rid of this. To be honest I don't really think anybody should be holidaying at the moment abroad and anybody who has travelled from and too any country should isolate .

Agreed. I don’t think holidays should have started again a recipe for disaster for all sort of reasons. But economy came before people’s lives.

Thomas I know you are trying to wind me up like you did under the lockdown.
Sky News just said parts of UK in fact worse than Spain.
All care about is where I live and we should not be brought in to it.
This will kill the UK travel business and hurt the UK as well watch , so your continued sarcasm is pathetic.
Also where I live in Balearic Islands it’s virtually perfect so yes it’s unfair to the islands , it should us quarantine the UK from here.
Sat Jul 25, 2020 9:49 pm
I cant get my head around how anyone would even contemplate going on a foreign holiday until at least early next year.
Sat Jul 25, 2020 9:55 pm
Your right skiprat. I had to tell my employees that anyone who travelled abroad and had to isolate for 2 weeks would have to take it as unpaid leave or holiday. This in and out or quarantine was always gonna happen. And it doesn’t take that many cases to do it as proven in Spain and Leicester, the actual cases in both are very low to cause such chaos.

I'm confused I agree with you
I asked a question about the death toll on the mainland and why it is so low but cases high nothing about the islands numbers which I actually said was different to the mainland . There was no sarcasm or winding up.
I also believe during a pandemic if travelling from a different country everyone should isolate and holidays should be off at the moment but everyone is learning for the first time how to deal with this. Next time we will all know better.

Balearic Govt to have meeting with UK Govt and will show Balearics Mallorca/Ibiza/Minorca etc safest places in Europe to go to
Sun Jul 26, 2020 9:14 am
https://www.gov.uk/foreign-travel-advice/spain basically you can still get insuranced to the islands but not the mainland but will have to quarantine
Sun Jul 26, 2020 9:34 am
its not about the virus, its because 1.5 million people have booked for spain in august. They want the money spent in uk,its only catalonia thats a problem. They cannot travel out of catalonia its now sealed Off in and out.

It's such a hard decision to make,I understand Spain relies on tourism, but if the numbers are rising sharply you can't sit on the fence, you got to make a decision one way or another, come on be fair either way the government would be criticized for not acting or to slow to act ,I would have though only imposed quarantine if you are only going to certain areas.

Ireland today decided not let UK tourists come there unless they quarantine for 14 days due to high level of Cov19 in the UK and high death rate .
Personally if Spain could afford not have the UK I would backed it in Spain as well.
Sun Jul 26, 2020 12:40 pm
From what I can see the cases aren’t that bad in either. But it seems the government were criticised in the first wave for acting to slowly and now they’ve reacted incredibly quickly that wrong as well. I see no need to get into a mud slinging where I live is better than where you live contest doesn’t help at all.
Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:10 pm
This is not going away any time soon. I have no idea why people feel the need to go away, we can't even go into a pub in the principality but can get on a plane for 2 hrs and you can go mental. Just crazy to me.
I would have a 14 day quarantine for all (countries) non essential travel. It's not the science of quarantine, but a deterrent for the masses. We need lorry drivers and air crew to carry on, but they would only represent a tiny minority. Those who have to travel can and will travel but need to isolate until proved clear of the virus.
I really don't give a toss if Ryanair or Easyjet lose money. No one asked for this pandemic, but the reality is it's with us and we have to change our habits until its defeated.
Why any Island that has gone through a lot to achieve whatever success they have would want tens of thousands of visitors each day is beyond me and I include the Balearics, Ireland and Great Britain in that statement.
Sun Jul 26, 2020 1:19 pm
It was always going to be a gamble booking a holiday this year! Thought be better put money away for next year and either take two holidays or have a much better holiday destination? Thats what I've done..

It does totally matter where you live , how pathetic.
Of course it matters if the islands are in good health then they are ok to visit etc.
So are you saying the whole of the Ul should be locked down because of BRADFORD, LEICESTER, BLACKBURN etc that’s what your saying.
