Cardiff City midfielder Will Vaulks has identified the wins over Leeds United and Preston as the turning point in the Bluebirds' play-off bid.

When football resumed after its prolonged delay due to the coronavirus pandemic, Cardiff were sat in ninth with 54 points - two points adrift of the top six.

However, they've picked up 19 points since the restart, with only Leeds and Brentford picking up more.

And Bluebirds midfielder Vaulks believes it was the back-to-back victories over Leeds and Preston, who were both ahead of Cardiff in the league at the time, which set the tone for their run of form.

Speaking to BBC's Football Focus about how Cardiff dealt with lockdown, Vaulks said: "We kept ourselves really fit.

"That's played a massive part. We've got such a strong squad.

"I think the first two games were really important.

"We were playing top of the league Leeds and then Preston who were ahead of us in the table at the time.

"That was probably the turning point, winning those two games.

"That allowed us to be really serious and kick on into the play-offs."

The Wales midfielder also said making the play-off makes up for having both his wedding and Euro 2020 postponed.

"It's a not bad potential replacement for two things that were disappointingly cancelled over the summer - playing a part in a major tournament and getting married," he added.

"But if you asked me if I'd go back and swap it, I probably wouldn't as we're in a great position and you never know what can happen now."

And when pressed upon the topic of a potential south Wales derby at Wembley, Vaulks toed the party line by admitting all Cardiff were focused on were semi-final opponents Fulham.

"Obviously we're all aware of it," he said.

"There's a chance it can happen, but that's there. Right now, it's same cliché that it's the next game.

"But we literally have done that throughout lockdown so that will be the focus."

I think he is spot on - These were the 2 big wins, but the draw and lose at home later could have made things easier ...
Before the Boro and Hull games towards the end of the season . Still Well Done to All :bluebird:
