I think that a move is/was on the cards for NE. Hope things work out for all concerned,,, if indeed this is the case...

Can see more championship players going places like tho who have lots money to spend on good players to enhance their leagues cheaper than premier league players.

Good luck to him.

Personally I think Alex Smithies has been brilliant this season and deserves the number one spot.

Crazy how Etheridge was being linked with a Premier League move a year ago and now he's going over there.

No ill feeling towards him though and wish him well. He'll make a lot of money and still probably keep his spot as the Philippines number one.

Thats a shame - as those 2 either one is great and perfect backup for the other. Cant blame him for doing it though. Good money, probably tax free. It wont as exciting for him as the city, but the wages will more than make up for it. 2 years out there - he'll never be poor again let alone have to work when he retires.

I tend to agree, shame if it's true.but the money being quoted is too good to turn down for him, especially as he's been number 2 this season, through now fault of his own,it's just Smithies has been performing well enough to keep him out.although even with the wages he's been on here, should make sure he is never poor  if true, then I wish him good luck. :old: :bluebird:

Shame if true as he is a very good keeper we could do with keeping but if it ends up being true I wish him all the best.

He personally had a very good season in the premier league.

I know he’s been backup all this season but that fee still seems really low to me, for a consistent goalkeeper as him

That's his wages not the fee :D

Would have liked to see him stay and fight for the shirt but ££££££'s talk.

Should get around £12m of them as money no object :(

I hope this transfer is subject to whether we get promoted or not.to me he is just about our only proven Premiership player and would be needed in our squad if we went up. Otherwise I would agree in the sale providing we got a reasonable fee for him as he only has a year left on his contract with us.

It's an odd one on Neil Etheridge; an immovable object in goal for City over recent years ago but now seemingly unable to get close to a recall

Would love him to stay at the club, as two quality keepers is a must for any team but I can also understand that he is on good money for warming the bench and close to the end of his contract; the latter of which will dictate City simply have to listen to offers and allow a great servant to go ply his trade as a No.1 elsewhere

Assuming he goes, I say "Thank you, Neil" and wish him nothing but the best! :notworthy: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

Never seemed the same after the early season injury. Fantastic 2 seasons with us though and having 3 keepers is just not viable in the current climate.
Fully expect Cunningham to be next.

Agree with this

In his last Premier League game at Old Trafford he looked every inch a top class Premier keeper. Made a couple of smart saves but more importantly dominated his box and looked cool and in command. Be a waste of his talents not to stay in UK but from a money aspect I cant blame him.

Thoufht that was a low figure when there where prem clubs looking at him a while back
but hats of to Smithies all round performance distriburion has been better the best man wins.

be a great shame to let a fantastic goalkeeper who has been our leader in goal throughout the Premier League season and seasons before. But we fans cant do anything to sway our Bluebird from flying away from us. Same with Gunnersson really I would off loved him to stay but if he fancied a move away to a hot country then there is no stopping him. If this is true then as a longtime Cardiff fan i wish him well because he has been our best goalkeeper since he came to us.
So good luck Neil Etheridge and as we say once a bluebird always a bluebird and you gave us wonderful saves that no other keeper would make. We will miss you fellow bluebird. :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird: :bluebird:

i love Etheridge but wouldnt swap them right now , Smithies has been great mate, but the distribution bit :? :? Etheridge would fire the odd scud but his kicking generally was very good. Smithies really isnt. we play in blue/.

He was just unlucky to get injured TBH without that he wouldn't have lost the shirt as he was one of our best players two years in a row.

That £2.1 is what his wages would be not the price we would be selling him for

I disagree I think Etheridge distribution is the poorest part of his game. Smithies looks far more comfortable especially clearing it off the floor.

Without his injury he’d still be our no 1 imo. The guy was standout in the prem but once he had that injury he lost all confidence.

Not trying to be negative but I’ve always found that the more shots you have to save it’s bound to include a few miraculous ones.

NE distribution is the worst I’ve seen at city I think.
