Cardiff v Swansea play off final?

Thu Jul 23, 2020 9:28 am

I fancy the Jacks getting there a lot more than us.

Brentford must be on a down while the Jacks on a high. Brentford have lost their last 2 against teams they should have ocmfortable beaten. Obviously no game is easy in this division but if they are to show character they should be beating these teams. Last nights game against Barnsley they were the 2nd best team on the pitch. They had a short spell where they looked like they could turn a 1-0 around to a 2-1 win. Overall though Barnsely deserved that last minute winner and the question that must be asked is has Brentford got the character to see through the business end of the season? For me they really do need to pick themselves up else the Jacks will take them to the cleaners.

As for our games against Fulham we go into this with the pressure on them. I think they have the character to handle it. The only concern they will have is how far have we come since Harris was introduced to us? Have we got alot more to expose or have we peaked? I hope its the former. A difficult one to call.

i dont either mate... been people on here saying ideal scenario etc and i proper dont get it... its the sort of thinking and comments that i associate with local glory hunter Liverpool / Man Utd fans . yes beating them in a final would be fantastic but for me the downside would be far greater than the up... plus i doubt id enjoy the game ..

I highly doubt we will get past Brentford.

We are 6-1 down against them if you look at the two league games this season. They have incredibly gifted players but this is the playoffs and strange things happen.

SHOULD the unlikely event that we get past them occur, then my preference would be to play you lot, simply because I think we would have a better chance of winning which isn’t too much of a stretch to say. Again we have both played Fulham 4 times combined this season and got 1 point out of it, that was a 10 man Fulham vs you.

Very good side.

I hear what you say and agree but they’ve stumbled a bit over last two games. Anyone’s guess if they’ll come out steaming or if nerves will play a big part. We’ll soon find out.

It's going to be tough - All 4 teams deserve to be their after the break on results of late .

Very unpredictable, there is no point in looking at who beat who previously, of course, it gives an indication and will influence the bookies odds, but now were are in a cup competition, with most players fit to play with a bigger bench and with five subs allowed and no fans which may help some clubs more than others.

The dynamic has changed significantly Managers play a massive role in picking the right teams and being able to change the game with good substitutions to win or see out a game. From what I've seen I think Harris and the players are very confident and he will have them in the right mental state, the pressure is on Fulham and Brentford.

I cant wait to see all the games, it is going to be very interesting and hard to predict, no matter what happens I'm happy with the season and not too bothered really if we were to lose, so its a great position to be in, and one I can't ever remember being in before?

Cardiff midfielder Marlon Pack says he is excited about the prospect of an all-Welsh Championship play-off final.

Swansea City's 4-1 win at Reading and Nottingham Forest's shock 4-1 loss to Stoke allowed Swansea to overturn a five-goal swing on the last day of the Championship season.

Cardiff beat Hull to book a semi-final with Fulham, but Pack admits a Welsh final would be huge for both rivals.

"What a final it would be if it did happen," Pack told BBC Sport Wales.

West London versus Wales is the story in both two-legged semi-finals, with the Swans starting at home against Brentford on Sunday, and the following day Cardiff hosting a Fulham side who Cardiff boss Neil Harris says are "under pressure" to earn promotion.

Pack says the Cardiff players were shocked to hear the Swans would be joining them in the play-offs, with the Bluebirds beating Hull 3-0 to claim fifth place.

"You'd probably have fancied Forest to get something at home to Stoke but that typifies the Championship," he explained.

"It shows what a tough league it is. We played Swansea in the penultimate friendly before the return and they looked in good shape.

"But we can't get too carried away. We've got two tough games against Fulham and they've got Brentford."

Recent form, Cardiff have won the last three, Fulham drew two won one.

Swansea have won the last two games, Brentford lost the last two games.

Mentally thats got to have an effect going into a cup competition, especially when those two have been there virtually all season and were in touch with automatic promotion only yesterday!

Bring them on I can't wait :ayatollah: :bluescarf: :bluebird:

I don’t want an all South Wales play of final I live in port talbot and if they did beat us at Wembley it would be a nightmare down here and in Neath Llanelli and further west where our support comes from it would be hard work if they beat Fulham at Wembley but could live with that

I want the easiest game in the final if we over come Fulham and make no mistake that is the Jacks.
Bring it on but I’m expecting Brentford to go through.

Neil Harris says the pressure is on Fulham ahead of their play-off semi-final clash with his Cardiff City side.

Cardiff finished fifth in the Championship after a 3-0 win over Hull and will face Fulham in the play-offs with the first leg in Cardiff.

Harris says the money taken to assemble Scott Parker's squad means Fulham must handle the weight of expectation.

"We are the form side in the play-offs, but the league table doesn't lie," he told BBC Sport Wales.

"The message is clear now. We get into the play-offs and extend our season when everyone else is on holiday and you do that for one reason only and that's to win. No other reason.

"There is a little bit of pressure on us but there is huge pressure on Fulham, a team that should be in the Premier League with the money that they have spent and even now are spending. We will go and enjoy it."

Cardiff could yet meet Welsh rivals Swansea in the play-off final after a remarkable climax to the regular season saw them sneak into the play-offs.

Cardiff's rivals won 4-1 at Reading while Nottingham Forest were beaten 4-1 at home by Stoke, meaning Swansea drew level on 70 points with the City Ground side and overcame a five-goal deficit in the goal difference column in the process.

Harris admits he had not believed both Welsh clubs could make it.

"I didn't see that happening, that we would both get in the play-offs, I just couldn't see us both getting there. I just couldn't see it. But both Welsh clubs deserve it," he added.

Harris feels Swansea, like Fulham and Brentford, will be less troubled than Cardiff by a lack of fans in attendance, with games played behind-closed-doors due to coronavirus.

"I would have liked our fans to have been there tonight," Harris added.

"We would have had a sell-out tonight and they would have carried us through. They deserve a special mention.

"We might feel the loss of fans more in the play-offs.

"We do now lose something not having the fans. No disrespect to the other teams, but we have the most passionate fan base of the teams in the play-offs. Teams would fear coming here and maybe we wouldn't feel the same way going away."

Harris also could not resist a dig at Forest after the row between the sides over winger Albert Adomah, who was recalled by his parent club last month.

"I heard people talking about Sabri Lamouchi four weeks ago as the manager of the year in the Championship, they've finished seventh," Harris added.

"They stopped us keeping Albert Adomah to take an advantage over us… It is a crazy league."

2 of the best sides I have watched - Brentford and Fulham. Brentford have been knocking on the door for a while about making a serious push. So I'd have us and the JB's to be the underdogs in both games.

The only caveat to this - is that with no crowds, no atmosphere - these are not normal games. And so far it seems to gone ok for us. Basically anything can happen and I dont want an us v them final.

The best team in the League by miles was Leeds, and we've shown twice on our day we can compete with the best, coming back from four-nil down to draw and then beating them two-nil, Fulham will be very wary having to play us over two games :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah: :ayatollah:

I'd love to play those jbs in the final as it would be awesome to beat them in the final and send them on their way, although it will be a Brentford v Cardiff City final :bluebird:

Don’t make things up Al. I said after 46 game season you are where you are on merit, not luck.

While you will point to a red card for the opposition as luck, I could balance that out by pointing to a red card for us as “unlucky”. You may call us lucky for getting a penalty... I could balance that out by pointing to a penalty against us etc etc etc

Small elements of luck for and against you over the season. But winning by a margin that you set out to... isn’t luck, it’s intent.

I don't disagree but watching us play you would not be enjoyable unless we smashed you early into the game. At least with Brentford if we lost I wouldn't be that bothered.
