MOST COMPETITIVE LEAGUE IN THE WORLD CONFIRMED

Wed Jul 22, 2020 8:55 pm

Well, if it wasn't before, the Championship surely has now been confirmed as the most competitive League in the world?

What a crazy year of highs and lows; only topped by that mad, mad, mad, mad final fixture round tonight!

Leeds (rightly IMHO) crowned as Champions a week or so ago were able to relax and punish old boy Bowyer and his Charlton team with possibly their best performance of the season

West Brom, Brentford and Fulham conspire to muck it up royally for themselves with West From doing the least damage and scrambling over the financial line unsure as to how they had achieved it

Below that, there was a final battle between Forest, Cardiff and some other club to clinch the two play-off places still available; with Forest and Cardiff the strong favourites to succeed

Cardiff played their part with an easy win against (effectively) already relegated Hull City but Forest and Swansea contrived to meet eh remaining play-off place something of a farce

Swans needed to win by three and Forest lose by the same margin for the Swans to steal (maybe that's appropriate?) the one remaining play-off place (given Cardiff's domination of their position) that remained

Against all the odds, that's exactly what happened (4-1 and 1-4 respectively) saw Swansea finish in 6th and Forest drop to 7th

It's rare I say this but hats off to the Swans (the team not the supporters) and 'up yours' to the Scabs of Nottingham, who must be in deep shock this evening

At the other end, it wasn't any less crazy, as Barnsley, Charlton and Hull were the teams relegated to League One. But it was close and any one of several teams could have been there instead; with Birmingham City being the closest as they almost snook into the final three!

As I said, crazy season, crazy night; and it seems only in The Championship! :ayatollah:

I actually don't think it's as strong this year as previous seasons. Team for team.

Next season will be a right battle
Possibly :

Norwich
Watford or Villa
Bournemouth
Fulham, Brentford,Swansea,Cardiff
Boro under Warnock
Stoke
Derby

That will be a tough league next season, hopefully we won't be in it.

Average Team's like Forest and Millwall being that close to play offs and a half decent West Brom getting Automatic place . That doesn't normally happen in this league.

Read below your post! When we achieve some form of success, there are ALWAYS those who will try to knock it,as it isn't how they perceived the season to pan out!! And on that note, I thought Glatzel played really well, ran himself into the ground, those who are quick to point out we hardly win when he starts, well he's started the last two,add them to the "stats" :old: :bluebird:

Every year without fail someone will repeat the mantra "It's going to be tough next season, there's this team and that team etc, etc", without considering that the relegated teams will have to offload their high earners in order to balance their books and replace them with inferior players. Therefore the 'tough' league turns out to be nothing of the kind, which leads to comments such as "The league is crap this year, we should be p*****g it !"

Predictable but entertaining.

Saw an incredible stat earlier.

The bottom five on July 2nd, which was six games before the end of the season were as follows:

20th - Huddersfield

21st - Middlesbrough

22nd - Stoke

23rd - Barnsley

24th - Luton

None of them were relegated.

That is, of course, assuming Wigan's appeal in unsuccessful. If it is successful, one of those five teams will have gone down - Barnsley.

It’s the easiest it has been in years Next year will be the hardest in years Whatever it is the league delivers year in and year out and that is why is one of the best leagues in the world .
Love the league and prefer it to the premiership
