NEIL HARRIS:

Tuesday 21st July 2020

Experience?

"It’s good to have. It certainly helps being in this scenario for the past few seasons. There’s good experience within the group and I’ve seen that on the back of Fulham.

"There’s passion but calmness. That’s what’s needed Wednesday. We don’t need to go out all guns blazing.

"After 46 games in the league, you finish where you deserve to finish. Doesn’t matter where you are in September, it’s where you finish in May."

Neil Harris

Doing anything special with Tomlin?

"Managing his workload. It’s not just about him getting on the pitch, but what he does when he’s there.

"Cryo Chambers aren’t available so there;s only limited time to spend with a masseur. He was disappointed to come off the other day, which is a good sign as it means he felt he had more to give.

"We’re managing his workload to make sure he’s available."

NEIL HARRIS:

Cardiff’s style of football?

"I’m not a huge believer that it has to be one style. It’;s about winning games and then putting your stamp on a group.

"There are some good technical players here and some physical ones. Put them together and you might get a bit of both.

"We’ve worked on it hard on the training pitch and in the classroom and then it’s about them buying into it. We can play different styles in different games.

"I look back to Birmingham in Feb. we tried to pass the ball, it didn’t work. Played direct and it worked. There’s different ways to win games. It’s just finding the balance."

Neil Harris

Catching Forest?

"It’s hard enough to work out the top of the league, let alone who we’d play in the play-off.

"It doesn’t matter much if we’re fifth or sixth.

"Whoever you play in the play-off, it’s either West Brom, Fulham or Brentford.

"I just want to be there. We can have that debate afterwards."

Neil Harris

Do themselves justice in the Premier League?

"When you’ve got something so good, you always want more. I think that’s what Sean wants.

"They got there, but they missed out on staying there. That’s great. We all want to be there."

NEIL HARRIS:

Have you dared to dream about a Premier League return?

"When you say it’s only four games, it seems close. But anything beyond Hull is disrespectful to them.

"There’s a fine line between confidence and arrogance. You have to take it one game at a time."

Neil Harris

Message to the fans?

"I know the fans watch the press conferences and go out on social media. I’m excited.

"I hope they enjoy watching the team play, the goals we’re scoring. I was delighted we scored from a set play as it had been a while.

"We’d love to have thousands of fans in the ground, but I want them to come back and enjoy watching us."

Neil Harris

Does it add spice to the mix that Swansea are your play-off rivals?

"Of course it does. They’re the rivals. It gives it the edge. That’s the excitement of football.

"Millwall and Swansea are chasing us and we’re playing Boro with Warnock. We want to finish above them as it gives us sixth spot."

Neil Harris

What's the latest on Junior Hoilett?

"Nothing serious. He struggled leading into the game. He wasn’t 100% but after scoring against Derby, it was important to have your experienced players on the pitch.

"He gave it a go and wasn’t great. He’s no worse than he was. It’s muscular so it’s tightness. He’s not ruled out though. It’s his groin, but it might be his glutes."

Neil Harris

Will you keep informed on other results?

"I don’t think it makes a difference. We’ll pick a team to win the game. It depends on the scoreline of our game to know what I want from other games.

"You can’t rely on results elsewhere but you sometimes need to know scores from other games to inform your decisions."

Neil Harris

Neil Harris on not taking anything for granted

"Yeah it's a crazy league. That’s why we love it. The Championship continually surprises.I didn’t see Brentford losing to Stoke and neither did Slaven Bilic probably.

"It’s crazy and that’s why we enjoy it. So no I’m not taking anything for granted."

Do you think you have justified your appointment as manager?

NEIL HARRIS:

"Again, you guys have a better take than me. I don’t do social media so I don’t know people’s opinions.

"I like to think I’ve proven myself to the loyal fanbase and that I can lead the club forward. Maybe it’s a question to ask me in a couple of weeks time. I’ve enjoyed it, being part of the club and living in the city. I can’t wait for Wednesday as I’m enjoying watching my team. That’s a big thing.

"Saturday was another example of what we wanted to do. Some of the movement off the ball was outstanding."

Neil Harris

Was a top six finish a target back in November?

"I didn’t have a remit that I had to make the top six. But I felt the players were good enough to make it. They said to do the best you can to get there.

"I felt all along we had potential to grow as a team. There’s been various things over the way to slow us down, but we’ve dealt with it well.

"With a game to go, we’ve got the chance to finish that aim."

Neil Harris

Are you excited?

"Positive as ever. It was a huge 96 hours for us, Derby followed by Boro.

"I was delighted by the six points we got in those games. There’s a focus, but it’s calm. You want that in the players."

Neil Harris

Neil Harris on his side's post-lockdown form

"We came out of lockdown in great fashion, beating Leeds and Preston. We had a three-day blip where we probably deserved a point out of the games.

"But I asked the players to dig deep, trust us to pick the right team. It shows a desire in the group to do well and sometimes it’s about pushing that momentum along."

Neil Harris

How are the players coping with games coming thick and fast?

"A lot of this is about man management and making sure players are training at the right time.

"We’re very careful after games that players realise it’s a group mentality."

Neil Harris

The importance of finishing the season along with health and safety?

"We needed to finish the season with H&S for clarity. The Championship has proven what a quality league it is when you see Stoke beating Brentford.

"The importance of football is key and we want to extend that happiness for Cardiff fans beyond Wednesday."

Neil Harris

How do you see the situation at Hull?

"That’s their business, we can’t presume we’ll win the game. We’ll take care of our business.

"That’s what we’ve been doing recently. We know what we need to do. There’s no sentiment to worry about what other teams are doing. It’s all about Cardiff City."

He comes across well in interviews, he's a good Manager and has done a fantastic job no matter what happens!

Cardiff City boss Neil Harris does not want to have to rely on other scores to make the play-offs during the final round of Championship fixtures on Wednesday.

But he admits he will need to be aware of what is going elsewhere during the Bluebirds' game with Hull City.

Cardiff need only a point at home to Hull to guarantee a top-six finish.
