The Nottingham Forest collapse and results that will see both Cardiff City and Swansea make the play-offs

Here's how the Championship table looks on Saturday night and the results the three remaining teams in with a chance of making the play-offs need

Could Cardiff and Swansea both be in the play-offs?

Championship rivals Swansea and Cardiff City will be hoping the other trips up in their final match of the campaign on Wednesday as both sides bid to clinch a spot in the play-offs.

Both teams secured victories on Saturday: the Bluebirds beat Middlesbrough (and former manager Neil Warnock) 3-1 up at Riverside, while the Swans claimed all three points thanks to a 1-0 win over Bristol City.

It sets up a thrilling finale on Wednesday night, with Swansea needing victory at Reading to have a hope, and the Bluebirds requiring just a single point at home to Hull.

As things stand at the end of play on Saturday, West Brom occupied the second-placed spot in the table on 82 points, followed by Brentford on 81, Fulham on 80 and Nottingham Forest on 70 points in fifth.

Forest, of course, have a game in hand and will play out their penultimate match of the campaign on Sunday against Barnsley, so could see their points tally rise to 73 before the weekend is over if they can pick up three points.

But as things stand, Cardiff, sitting sixth, and Forest are on equal points - 70 - followed by Swansea in seventh spot with 67 points.

Like Cardiff, Forest need just one more point to secure their place in the play-offs, but there is a scenario where they could drop out of the top six and both Welsh clubs could make it through.

For that to happen, Swansea must win on Wednesday, Cardiff must at least draw and Forest would have to lose their games on Sunday against Barnsley and on Wednesday against Stoke. Swansea would also have to overturn a goal difference deficit of six with Forest in the process.

But, in all likelihood it's now a straight shootout between the bitter Welsh rivals to claim that final play-off spot as you'd have thought Forest would be able to clinch a single point across their final two matches against bottom-placed Barnsley and Stoke City.

What you think. We play safe for the draw or try and smash as many past hull as possible to try and overturn the goal difference with forest?

Not sure about goal difference but definitely go for the win.

we just need a point mate.. if Forest lose we over take them anyway but if they win and goal difference decides who is fifth we need to win by at least 5...

Yeah that's what I was angling at. Interesting to see what approach we take to keep things in our own hands and not rely on others.

For me not starting Tomlin would be a huge mistake. His creativity and composure is needed in a tense game.

If we can get 2 goals up Hull will collapse and we could go for the juggular. It remains to be seen how much resistance they'll put up on the night. If they nick a goal from somewhere and go in front the nerves will no doubt start to jangle!... We need to make sure we're solid from set-pieces.

do you really see us going for the jugular...? i think if we were 2 up we would just shut shop...maybe even 1 up if results are going against Hull or for ourselves.. 2nd half could turn into a real bore fest like the Reading game 2 years ago...

Yes, Hull will have to throw everything forward at that point and we'd pick them off at will then, esp if they down tools like against Wigan! :thumbright: :ayatollah:

hope your right re a bit of entertainment , but personally id bite your hand off for 6th, WBA in semi ,who we have beaten and who seem to have run out of steam a bit, and Forest beat Fulham.. we dont really need to score another goal just 4 nil- nil draws and win 2 penalty shoot outs..
