Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock told BBC Radio Tees:

"It was a tough afternoon for us. Goals are so important, to work as we did in training and then concede a goal from a corner, it's not good enough, you can't be doing that in the Championship. We gave silly goals away.

"Cardiff are hard to beat and break quickly and have attributes other teams would want... but put three or four of those Cardiff players in our team and we would have a really good side.

"Other teams don't have to work hard enough to score against us and that has to change.

"We will go to Sheffield Wednesday now and try and get a good result."

Which 3-4 players?

Tomlin Vaulks Ralls NML Bacuna Morrison Bennett?

All those would enhance most championship teamS.

He never played Vaulks much at City.

Quite, but we still owe him beyond belief

Warnock is forever a City legend and I think if Boro keep him and back him in the market he will get them in the promotion hunt next season.

Why? It’s what he did at City and also other clubs too, QPR in 10/11 also came from a relegation battle in previous season. Palace went from relegation to playoffs in same season 07/08 under Neil

He was at the club for a few years. He's not even close to being a club legend.

If he had kept us up then I could see the argument for calling him a club legend (even though I'd still disagree), but he didn't.

Of course he’s a City legend.

Just think on. When he came we were staring Div 3 in the face. 2 seasons later we’re in the PL and all but stay up.

Ok standards and expectations then slips but without him we’d have had a miserable few seasons and may still be languishing in the lower leagues.

Name me a City legend then?

Fred Stewart? Different times. But undoubtedly a legend.

Cyril Spiers, Bill Jones? Both took City to Div 1 but legends? No more than Warnock.

Scoular? What did he do? Ok some great European exploits but City has a free entry and the competition was knock out and once you got past the minnows there’s every chance of progressing.

He never took us to Div 1.

Andrews? Morgan? May? Burrows? Mackay? Cork?

All did some great things but save Mackay all at lower levels.

Not quite sure how legend is defined in football terms. Probably the wrong adjective but if it’s to be used to describe someone as a success and someone to aspire to and who’s done great things, it doesn’t have to be over a specific length of time. What Warnock did for the club is definitely deserving of legend status.

Robin Friday played a handful of games and is a club legend to some. Warnock is a legend not only because of the amazing promotion season but because of how he brought the club and it’s fans together again.

Strange comment - I guess that is Hoilett and Bamba going to Middlesbrough then if he gets the job!

Smithies, Tomlin,Vaulkes, Glatzel
Nelson all in the team today.
Players he rarely picked or started.
We would all have better teams if we took the best 3 from good teams.

I agree a club legend is objective to the generation who watch the team during their lifetime. I would certainly class NW as a legend during my time.

Eddie Eddie Eddie May and Warnock somehow galvanised the club. You can't create the formula and replicate it or everyone could do it.....Both legends in my eyes.

Watching Warnock at the end of the game yesterday with our players was liking a doting father with his kids or grandkids. He just has it, whatever that is.
It was the right time to go he is not a long term builder, but one hell of a short term fixer.

Forever grateful.

I think you are minority here pal. After the red he got the club together. We were adrift until he got us going.

Absolute club legend.

Ofcourse he’s a legend. Worcester must still be drunk from last night. Length of time time at the club has nothing to do with whether you’re a legend or not?

Re: Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock told BBC Radio Tees:

Relegation last year doesn’t really factor as we had by far lowest wage budget in league and still almost stayed up, we had an excellent season (won 10/38) with some outstanding results, 1-0 Leicester away, 2-0 Man Utd away, 2-0 West Ham home. If we had a bit more luck, Chelsea home springs to mind, we would have miraculously stayed up.

There is a number of fans who believe Warnock wasn't as good for our club. Overall I disagree but they do have a lot of valid points.

He spent a hell of a lot of money for players who were represented by his sons player agency, so did we need these players or was he doing the firm his son worked for a favour using the clubs money?

I would also agree that NW was looking for a way out from the beginning of the season but wouldn't resign because of the money he would have lost. Instead he manufactured appalling performances against Swansea and Bristol City in the hope of getting out, which eventually worked but it was to the detriment of the club as we could have been challenging for the top 2 spots if we hadn't dropped so many needless points during that period.

well he dragged us from relegation to 62points, then won promotion and made far more of a fist of the Prem than most people thought possible with those players { maybe we didnt need them because your mates like us being shite ,are they jacks or just stupid ? ...yes we spent but it was very modest { unless your one of these that doesnt compare other clubs spending } .. and although not a good start to this season it wasnt a car crash either... clubs who have spent far more have done far worse after relegation .. especially when you consider the amount of changes last summer.. Arter, Camarasa went back, manga , reid , zohore , gunner all left and Sol out long term...was a rebuild.
as for those games . Swansea the performance was awful.. but we always looked awful when losing.. it was amplified by the fact it was a derby..was 1-0 mate not 5 or 6 and if you look at the ...highlights... . there wernt any.. they passed it around as they do but its not like they kept hitting the woodwork , we were kicking it off the line, or Etheridge was MOTM ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0xHU9I5nKk ....as for the Bristol game ,we were the better team.. they had 2 shots one of which was a 25 yard screamer .. ive read some of this before its never backed up and incredibly silly .... but the manufacturing results bit is a whole new level

Personally I think he is the best manger we’ve had in decades not just cos of promotion but cos the club was heading downwards rapidly , off and on the pitch.
We were playing dire football and the fans hated the boardroom...it get us up the following season was a miracle and look at the good signings he made ...particularly Holliett and Bamba....and every manager makes bad signings too.
I don’t particularly like his character but i don’t give a toss when he achieved what he did.
He was the right man at the right time and also left at the right time :old: .
It was a win win...
Always been rumours on here about bungs etc but nobody has ever shown any evidence as far as I know ...

well id like to know who all these wrong signings from his sons agency are... i know Baccuna and Tomlin are NW signings who are managed by them as are Morrison and Ralls who were here before Warnock....maybe we be better off without them Wednesday...?
