MY VIEW / OPINION:

NEIL HARRIS CARDIFF TEAM TAUGHT NEIL WARNOCKS TEAM, HOW TO FINISH IN FRONT OF GOAL, WITH A GREAT AWAY WIN :thumbright: :bluebird:

CARDIFF STILL NEED A POINT IN THEIR FINAL GAME V HULL AT HOME NEXT WEDNESDAY TO GUARANTEE THE PLAY-OFFS.
Only Swansea can catch Cardiff.

Harris picked an attacking Cardiff City team.

WHAT A START BY CARDIFF CITY SEAN MORRISON PUT CITY UP AFTER ONLY 4MINS :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Second-half: Smithies made 3 consecutive saves as Boro tried to get back in to the game, but Cardiff stayed solid and ended up breaking through, with 2 great runs, one by Mendez-Laing & Murphy and 2 goals by Murphy :thumbright: :bluebird:

Cardiff deserved their h/t lead and looked solid :bluebird:
Cardiff C 58% possession first-half :bluebird:

Lee Tomlin was my man of the match yet again :thumbright: :bluebird:

MIDDLESBROUGH 1 CARDIFF CITY 3 :bluebird: :bluebird:
H/T 0-1 :bluebird:

Cardiff City: Smithies; Bacuna, Morrison, Nelson, Bennett; Vaulks, Ralls; Mendez-Laing, Tomlin, Hoilett; Glatzel

Subs: Etheridge, Sanderson, Flint, Bamba, Smith, Pack, Murphy, Paterson, Ward.

After only 4mins a goal! Sean Morrison put City ahead!
Ralls swung a corner into the box and Morrison met it and sent a venomous header low and beyond Aynsley Pears! 0-1 :bluebird: :bluebird:

17th min Hoilett's went off injured and was replaced by Josh Murphy.

After 25mins, Cardiff deserved to be ahead :bluebird:

Boro came back in to the game for a while, but Cardiff's defence was solid.

Lee Tomlin was a real threat to Boro and once again was everywhere. :bluebird:

City deserved their half-time lead :bluebird:

Cardiff C 58% possession :bluebird:

H/T 0-1 :bluebird:

With in 2mins, Lee Tomlin played in Josh Murphy on half way and Murphy broke through and ran down the field with no one in his way and put the ball away with confidence, bang 0-2 Cardiff City (Josh Murphy) :bluebird: :bluebird:

Cardiff continued to look solid with no real threat from Boro.

58th min Warnock did a Triple change for Boro.

Coulson on for Roberts.

McNair on for Saville.

Assombalonga on for Dijksteel.

Lee Tomlin was everywhere again and was a real threat to Boro.

65th min, after pressure by Boro, Smithies did a great save :ayatollah:

Boro made a 4th sub.

68th min another good save by Smithies.

Then a 3rd save by Smithies.

Boro gave everything.

Murphy also had a good game.

80th min Mendez-Laing ran through the Boro players and bang Josh Murphy tapped it in 0-3 :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird:

84th min, Morrison gave away a free kick and Boro got a goal back 1-3.

For me Tomlin, Murphy ,Smithies and Morrison all stood out, :bluebird:

90th min Sol Bamba and Sanderson both came on.

MY MAN OF THE MATCH LEE TOMLIN :thumbright: :bluebird: :bluebird:

Fantastic win. That was a potential banana skin and a huge result for us.

Lee Tomlin brilliant again.

We are starting to hit form at the right time.

The only disappointment today was seeing a player like Assombalonga at a struggling club and knowing he's not in our team. What a difference he would make to us, he would fit perfectly into this cardiff team.

That was the tough one. And we never looked like losing. Very comfortable.

Give it all Vs Hull now. But we don't do things easy. We'll probably go one down first 5 mins.

Not necessarily, depends what happens with Wigan's points deduction.

Great win and now to get the job done against Hull.Sad to see Hoilett go off but Murphy got some much needed game time and confidence back ready for the play offs.
This roller coaster season is now heading for the ‘loop the loop’ :)
Don’t think anybody will write us off just yet.

Cardiff City remain in pole position to clinch the final Championship play-off spot following a 3-1 win at Middlesbrough that means the hosts are still not safe from relegation.

BBC

Former Cardiff manager Neil Warnock was unable to get one over on his former side in a contest that the Bluebirds dominated as they stayed sixth with a game to go.

Goals at the start of each half from Sean Morrison and substitute Josh Murphy set them on their way before Murphy's second confirmed a deserved victory, though Britt Assombalonga curled home a 25-yard free-kick on 85 minutes to deny them a clean sheet.

Middlesbrough, who saw Jonny Howson sent off in the last minute for a second yellow card, are two points clear of the relegation zone and visit Sheffield Wednesday in their final game.

Cardiff host Hull City, who look in desperate trouble at the bottom of the Championship, in their final contest of the season and will clinch a play-off spot unless they lose and Swansea win at Reading.

The Swans' 1-0 win over Bristol City ensured the battle for sixth goes to the wire.

The reunion of Warnock and "his club, Cardiff City," as he described them, added an intriguing subplot to a contest with ramifications at both ends of the Championship.

Warnock left the Bluebirds in November 2019 after three years in charge having led them from the Championship relegation zone to the Premier League.

Fondly remembered by Cardiff fans, Warnock would have been motivated by one of his signings, Leandro Bacuna, describing his football as "old fashioned" in the lead-up up to a game in which Middlesbrough knew a win would guarantee their safety in the Championship.

However, with the hosts having lost five of their last six at home and Cardiff having won five of their last seven on the road, it was tough to see the hosts containing the promotion-chasing Bluebirds.

Indeed, Cardiff, who have been tipped for promotion by Warnock, knew they could potentially clinch a play-off berth with a win and they started in perfect fashion by opening the scoring after three minutes.

The goal was annoyingly simple from a Boro perspective with Joe Ralls' corner headed home by Morrison from close range, under little pressure, leaving Aynsley Pear no chance to make the save.

Joe Ralls also tested Pear from fully 25 yards out, but he palmed the ball to Junior Hoilett who blasted across goal and out for a throw-in from an acute angle.

Hoilett got no further chance to impress as he limped off after 17 minutes, replaced by Josh Murphy, with the quick Cardiff wide players getting plenty of chances to stretch the home defence.

From another fast counter Cardiff might have gone two ahead, but George Friend hauled down Robert Glatzel as he threatened to break clear, with Friend perhaps fortunate to only receive a yellow card.

The Bluebirds had a good grip on the contest with the hosts not really threatening until the final moments of the first period when Djed Spence curled straight at Alex Smithies and Spence also headed over from Marvin Johnson's cross.

The hosts started the second half exactly as they did the first, switching off defensively as Cardiff carved them open on the counter-attack from a Boro free-kick as Lee Tomlin's pinpoint pass found Murphy, who charged clear and confidently slotted past Pear.

Warnock tried to shake things up by making a triple substitution just before the hour mark and his side did improve with Marcus Tavernier's vicious effort forcing Alex Smithies to tip the ball onto the crossbar.

Nathaniel Mendez-Laing then teed up Murphy who deflected home a third, before Assombalonga's wonderful free-kick gave Middlesbrough a small consolation, but Cardiff deservedly held on.

Howson will miss Boro's last game after his rash foul on Will Vaulks saw him given a second yellow card.

Well a 10 point deduction would put them level with Hull if Hull beat us, but their goal difference is huge. Also Wigan still to play on Wednesday. The league may need to give them a 14 point deduction. Possible, but you never try to predict what EFL will come out with.

They need to win and then rely on Wigan and Luton lose so an early goal for us be perfect then get them on counter attack

City never looked threatening on the break under Warnock.

Vaulks today showed Warnock how effective he is.

Nobody can fault any of the players today - all put in a huge shift and played some decent stuff at times.

Top 6 finish would be a fantastic accolade for Harris

Where are all the Murphy haters tonight ? now joint top scorer with 8 goals and 3 assists despite very limited game time! Very professional performance this afternoon with Harris getting the better of Warnock! Surely we will beat relegated Hull and prevent the Jacks getting to the playoffs!

.

Could've had a HT too if NML had put a little more on that one pass he was through again.

Played well.

NW has done extremely well to keep a dreadful Boro side up. Take nothing from our team though, Neil Harris is certainly no poor mans Neil Warnock that many thought at the start. Vaulks, Smithies and Big Lee Tomlin sending a message to the old legend

For the reply on Murphy haters. He was a sub. He scored 2 goals and played well. If he is so good why is he not the first name on the team sheet? the answer is attitude and lack of consistency. I would be delighted if he can be 7 /10 for most games and justify the fee of 11 million and just play great more than once every 10 games.

I would play him up front against Hull not out wide. He's too lacking in defensive ability and workrate to be a winger .

Too lightweight to play upfront! We play with one out and out striker like most teams & you suggest Murphy???

In truth I'd take that scenario, over being 1 down in the last 5 mins!! Harris, along with the players that have already tasted life in the big league, will be drumming it home to those that haven't, in truth,I was dreading the boro game, but we bossed the game in the main, now we have to get over the last hurdle! I'd snatch your hand off now for a 0-0 bore fest right now  c'mon city :bluescarf: :bluebird: :bluebird: :bluebird: :old: :bluebird:

Scratch that! Just seen the table they are on 50 points already, thought it was 49.so fair play, they look crap! He has done what was asked though  agree 100% on Harris though, he has impressed me to date,he is certainly not neil warnock 2.0 as a few on here predicted upon his appointment, even a one eyed fan, would have to admit,he has improved the way our team plays, all with players, that in all truth, warnock had wrung dry, with his high energy hoofball tactic, even bacuna has come out and called his style old fashioned, and no fun to play.I said I'd give Harris time to put his stamp on the team/squad,including a pre season, and summer window, however I will admit,I didn't believe he would achieve this much,so soon in his tenure, but am pleasantly surprised that he has! He comes across quite well in interview, has a clear passion to help the youngsters come through the ranks,a definable difference between him and warnock there for me  no come on Mr Harris, achieve the impossible, and make the 1% of doubters, choke on their words!! Along with becoming an instant ccfc hero in the process  keep the faith fellow :bluebird: :bluebird: nearly there. :old: :bluebird:
